I didn’t see an option to buy black on dead.net. I better check my order.

I actually thought this was a posthumously finished studio album based on stuff that had been recorded prior. Not that I recall any such recording happening.

To me, this would be far, far more interesting.

    Will these songs be edited/tidied?

Days Between, for instance, I don’t think was ever played live correctly all the way through. I wonder...

This release was inevitable, and I welcome it (kind of). I think it had to be done to tie up that last era. Some of JG/RHs tunes here are great.

However, why not make a definitive document? Where are all of the songs that were in the running? Where are Phil’s songs? How about rounding it out with more from the rehearsal sessions excerpted on the So Many Roads box.

And again, totally inappropriate cover. What on earth does it have to do with the album? There were so many great Liquid Blue tour shirt graphics from this era. Why not use one of those? At this point they’re classic.

But the version on Long Strange Trip soundtrack is pretty fine IMHO

Yea, would have been really nice to have “definitive” performances created by studio sweetening of live tracks, ala E ‘72. That was an awesome concept, so well-executed, for the recorded debut of that batch of tunes.

We've been talking about Hunter's genius a lot this past week, but what better way to wrap up the final phase of the Dead in the middle 90s:

"Summer flies and August dies, and the world grows dark and mean."

Did August West manage to drag his blind and drunken self into the 90s?

I don;t have a problem with the idea of this disc, at least there's reasing to it. It's not like that Summer of '69 disc form a couple years ago, THAT was a cash grab.

Weren't there studio tracks recorded of songs that never made an album (sometime in the 90's) i know i have a bootleg of those, I'll have to search for the what the CD is called.

I think I only have this CD because JerryGarcia.com sent it to me for free years ago. I don't think I ever made it through the whole disc.

No f-ing way I'm pre-ordering anything from dead.net while I'm on the 12th day of waiting for the Giants Stadium box to ship. DL should know he lost a sale thanks to dead.net's incompetance.

I believe that the bootleg CD was called Earthquake Country? It's on the Archive. Quality isn't great though.

What was the Summer of '69 disc? I must have intentionally forgotten about it!

I am feeling your pain there.
Think they are suffering from the earlier incompetence, though to be honest UPS should take some blame for the last Dave's picks debacle

"Earthquake Country", at least on archive, is hissy and runs too slow. Difficult to judge the material from that source.

Let me clear that I'm not singling anyone in this thread out specifically, but, uh, are we sure we're okay with pulling the trigger on this and helping to make $20 for a single CD the new norm? I know I'm not, so I'm holding off on pulling the trigger.

No Phil, no deal. What's the point, all the others have been released someplace or another. I really like If the Shoe Fits, actually.

I'll keep my copy of Earthquake Country (plus So Many Roads), thanks.
I'm a big Eternity fan. (My lawyer will field any disagreements ; )

If you are gonna do this, why not include Phil's tunes from that time? I would have to think he said no.

Why not? Aside from the cover this is a great collection of Jerry from the same era as the self-titled Jerry Garcia Band and How Sweet it Is.

Agreed. I just folded the inner sleeve to show a different picture. It sounds much better that way.:D

OK, I'll add Eternity to my keepers list. I also get my occasional late GD fix from disc 5 of the SMR box. I love the version of Whiskey in the Jar too. That's better than most of the originals.
