sorry if this thread has been down before.
we all know the berlin trilogy by david bowie, but can you give us and explain why examples of three albums in a row with a common link

    of course:
king crimson: discipline, beat, three of a perfect pair
but i go with the cure: fait, seventeen seconds and pornography, same cold wave feeling
i find a real english flavor in genesis: nursery crime, foxtrot and selling england by the pounds
    and it's obvious to me:
the stranglers: black and white/ the raven/ meninblack, for this main theme of course. What a great band they were.

Before this they released the baggy/shoegaze dubut Leisure and after went onto an American lofi influenced sound on their self-titled Blur.

Tom Waits' '80s Island Records trilogy is pretty killer.

    Swordfishtrombones
    Rain Dogs
    Franks Wild Years

All represented on his live album Big Time. Marked a serious change in direction for him.

Zappa' Hot Rats 'trilogy' includes Burnt Weenie and Weasels. They all have instrumental music from the same period of time. The Rats box shows some music even showed up on Chunga's

    * - I don't think this one is up to snuff with the other two, but most people disagree with me.

It's a false trilogy, but it's how they've come to be regarded.

Not sure if it counts but the Kinks have the very British (but not exclusively so) trilogy of
    - Something Else By....
    - ... Are The Village Green Preservation Society
    - Arthur (or the decline and fall of the British Empire)

    Tunes Of War (1996)
    Knights Of The Cross (1998)
    Excalibur (1999)

(Considered to be the Medieval Trilogy... First is about William Wallace and Scotland's fight for freedom, the second is about the Holy Crusades and the third is about the Arthurian Legends.)

Also, in 2010, they released a 2nd album about the history of Scotland called The Clans Will Rise Again and, in 2020, they released a 3rd album about Scotland called Fields Of Blood. So, the 3 albums about the history of Scotland are somewhat a Trilogy on their own also.

All involving Robert Fripp, this was supposed to be a "loose trilogy of sorts":

    Peter Gabriel - s/t (Scratch)
    Robert Fripp - Exposure
    Daryl Hall - Sacred Songs

    I can't explain, but

    Rubber Soul (US)
    Yesterday & Today
    Revolver
    (US)

Perhaps it conveys an alternate 'Expanded Edition' of what would have been a double UK LP.

Of course Bowie had another series of trilogies. The letter 'o' trilogies.

Space Oddity (or David Bowie, if you prefer)
    Man Who Sold The World
    Hunky Dory

Then he gave that idea a little break until

    Diamond Dogs
    Young Americans
    Station to Station

    And then

    Low
    Heroes
    Lodger

He kind of lost it after Scary Monsters... so that was the end of the letter 'o' trilogies until his final letter 'o' trilogy starting with 'Tonight'. Astute Bowie fans will quickly work out what those are.

He thought the letter 'O' had a special significance, which I wont go into here for obvious reasons.

I really hate the “Berlin trilogy” title considering the first one was mainly recorded in France and Lodger was recorded in Switzerland mixed in New York
