Many times grouped together because of their lofty perfection

    Joni Mitchell
    Court and Spark
    The Hissing of Summer Lawns
    Hejira

Moving from the personal to the abstract pop and jazz ventures

Blue Oyster Cult... Their first three albums Blue Oyster Cult, Tyranny and Mutation and Secret Treaties (aka their best three albums! ) have a similar formative sound and also had black and white artwork on their covers hence they call it their "back and white era".

A trilogy chronicling Robert Smith's plunge from despondency into psychosis. They work much better as a trilogy than Pornography/Disintegration/Bloodflowers.

Waka/Jawaka even says 'Hot Rats' on the cover and Sleep Dirt was supposed to be called Hot Rats III but Warner Brothers changed the title without Frank's permission.

Spinal Tap were on a medical/malpractice theme in the early 70s with these 4 titles.
    • Brainhammer (1970)
    • Nerve Damage (1971)
    • Blood to Let (1972)
    • Intravenus de Milo (1974)

    Bowie's queer trilogy:

    Hunky Dory
    Ziggy
    Alladin Sane

There's elements of this I the next studio album Diamond Dogs as in the 'going against the norm' nature of the 1984 themes but he started following Mick Jagger tropes around 1974 and it kinda blurs that queer aesthetic.

Welllll... it would actually be a few tracks from Full Moon Fever, a couple from Roy Orbison's Mystery Girl, a track from George's Best Of Dark Horse, and a touch of Jeff's Armchair Theater...

    Per Jeff Lynne's comments:

"These were always going to form a trilogy. On the Third Day, there was a breakup of the ocean, leaving the pathway clear to Eldorado. But on the way, they encountered trouble and had to Face the Music. Once we had that story finished, I felt free to move on to other topics."

It's a false trilogy, but to me Elton John, Tumbleweed Connection, and Madman Across The Water are Elton's singer-songwriter trilogy before he went in a more commercial direction with Honky Chateau.

Does McCartney, McCartney II, and McCartney III count? Decades apart, but same theme of doing each one by himself.

Yes. That how I heard those albums. I have UK RS and Revolver but I’m used to hearing “I’ve Just Seen a Face” to start it all off.

Personally, I'd start with VGPS and end with Lola as there's a common link as concept albums.

But Sleep Dirt was supposed to be part of Lather along with In New York and Orchestral Favorites.

  23. I tend to thing of Stranded, Country Life and Siren a trilogy-Ferry’s rumination on love all have a number of common themes -from romantic to religious.

Three straight ahead but extra heavy southern rock powerhouses.... with pretty weak, similarly themed album covers.

Linda Ronstadt and her 1980s Nelson Riddle trilogy. Elektra even put them together and released them as a boxed set.
