One thing we can all agree on is RSD
and April 21, 2018 release product, as follows, through my previous half dozen posts. :) ....speaking of enthusiasm, I find it is indeed contagious and I'm caught up as well with plans to start reinvestment in the vinyl format. There's just too much good stuff to miss out on the fun !

A couple more that just grabbed my attention moments ago :

    Steven Wilson
    How Big The Space
    Caroline Records

    Johnny Winter
    The King of Slide
    Friday Music

    This one looks intriguing:

    Various Artists
    Takin' Care of Business:
    Soul, R&B, and Garage
    From the Vaults of
    Rampart Records
    1963 to 1971
    Vampisoul label

Although I'm not familiar with this label at all, in fact I've never even heard of it before today. Hopefully it's an outfit with access to the original master tapes.

They're part of the Spanish reissue label Munster Records, so chances that these are needledrops are approximately 100%.

    Cheers for that, Danby.
I kind of suspected it might be a cash-in operation. I once had a Yardbirds LP that was a needle drop, and while that one actually wasn't all that bad, I'm not sure that it is something I'd be interested in revisiting at this point in my life, especially since I've been accustomed to listening to CDs for the last 3 decades.

Needledrops aren't necessarily bad things, and in fact for releases like this, they're pretty much what you're gonna get. What's the likelihood that the master tapes of an East L.A. indie label from the '60s are even still extant, much less in playable condition?

That's a good point. Often times a good vinyl rip from a mint or near-mint platter is preferable, provided it's not NR'd. I used to collect CD compilations of rare mid-60s garage-punk 45s. Back in the early 90s when most of the comps were needle drops, you were basically hearing someone's record collection, for-better-or-worse. At that time it was believed that the master tapes for the majority of these small-quantity pressing, local-label 45s we're hopelessly lost. Then with the advent of the internet and word and interest quickly spreading, it was discovered that many of the master tapes were in fact not only still in existence, but still salvageable. The example that comes to mind here is the Sundazed-label's "Garage Beat '66 " volumes, which feature a good many of the same tracks once comped from needle drops elsewhere now remastered by Bob Irwin from newly discovered master reels. While the Sundazed CDs are very good, excellent in fact, I nevertheless often found that I preferred the needle drops - warts and all - simply because they sounded like the authentic 45s and actually had vinyl life in them, retaining their vintage character

I'm glad to see this fine new artist with product on vinyl for RSD. She has a very cool style of playing guitar, which I find very appealing. Great songwriting too

Just for the fun of it I went on Discogs to research all the RSD 2017 lps I purchased at a reasonable price last year. Every one of them is now available for a lower price new or mint condition( I am convinced that 90 percent of RSD purchases are played one time or less). There are many must haves this year but I am going to wait it out and make my purchases after the frenzy is over. I am pretty sure I can get everything I want excepting maybe the Pink Floyd mono at suggested retail or less by waiting a few months.

On that note I think there should be a record store day once a month. There would still be exclusivity as a draw, without the pain-level anxiety of a once-a-year event. Keep the whole thing going but at a much more relaxed pace. Good for collectors, good for merchants, good for the industry.

I think most good record stores find ways to put up events to get people in. Short concerts, signings, things like that. It helps to build a community.
Mine does this, and get loads of people of all ages. Exclusives and colored vinyl are not enough to live on.

    Thankfully this one's from Sundazed;
They typically press in ample enough quantities to ensure that everyone who wants one has a fair chance of snagging a copy:)

Let's assume we are all cool with multiple usages of the word "record" in different contexts and get back to talking about the 2018 releases. :)

Anyone know how many Bradley’s Barn copies will be released? I don’t see anything on RSD site.

I so want this, but living in the UK will have to find a means for getting a hold of this and for Harry Nilsson’s release

Didn't they try that a few years ago? It fizzled quickly, if I recall.

I thought I saw only 1300 copies each for the Berry and the Bo Diddley albums.

I always see most Sundazed RSD releases in Paris but they are, sadly, always very expensive (their latest Chet Atkins was 38 Euros, if I recall correctly).
