No, but I"m not inclined to mess with a good thing. For me the biggest improvements were, in order: 1) GrooveTracer Reference Subplatter, 2) TT-PSU 3) GrooveTracer Counterweight.

I can't recommend the GT subplatter strongly enough. IMO, if you don't put one on your Rega, you are not going to fully hear just how good it can be. There is simply no substitute for knocking down the noise floor as much as possible, particularly on a turntable. As RaunchNRoll has pointed out, the improvement is NOT subtle.

Music Direct has a real nice discount on the P7 right now. That's what I would do.

I'll think about the subplatter. Not sure I want to do that myself, and not sure it's worth the additional hassle to have it done. I appreciate the advice.

It's incredibly simple to do the subplatter swap.

believe me there is ZERO hassle. it's one of those things an idiot could do blindfolded :agree: (and if I can do it..... ANYONE can do it)
you just remove the old sub-platter by lifting it out/off, dip the provided magnet down the shaft to remove the old ball bearing, drop the new one in, a few drops of lube down the shaft (lube provided) and place the new subplatter in/on top and let it gradually sink down. you can't go wrong

Alright thanks. It's hard to underestimate my confidence in myself with these tasks. I spent years making a living with drills and all kinds of grinders, files, hoses, clips and drivers, but this smaller, delicate work makes me nervous, to be honest. :)

    I'll consider it.

It's not small delicate work...it's a piece of cake.

I'm not much for tinkering but this is an upgrade that I would not even be nervous about doing...truly simple.

Okay, thanks. It will go on the list.

I have one for my P5. I tried it for a couple of days then put the felt one back on. The Herbie's wasn't terrible, but its strengths were not immediately apparent to me. I know I should give it a longer listen, just not on the top of my to-do list.

The sub-platter is a no-brainer for the first thing you should do.

    Thanks for that John.

I'm some months away from any upgrades, so time for things to percolate in the old noggin.

I followed your advice on this last time you mentioned it and I couldn't agree more. I haven't done the others yet except the psu which is very noticeable.

    Really appreciated

I put mine on a 4" Mapleshade maple platform I had about, with Herbie's Audio Lab "Grungebuster Dots" under the platform. I don't use sorbothane any longer, I don't feel it's sonically neutral.

I removed the three Rega feet. At first I was using Herbie's Audio Lab "Iso Cups" but I changed these over to Herbie's "Tall Tenderfeet," I feel they are just a tad warmer sounding. I also have three of Herbie's "Sonic Stabilizers" on the top face of the wood base (each as close to being over the "Tall Tenderfeet" as possible). Really like what all this has wrought; I'm standing pat for a spell.

First, enjoy the superb setup you already have (you are not missing out on anything)! Upgrade suggestions will just rob you of the joy of your already-great rig...

Then, if/when you honestly feel the need for something 'more':

    1. Exact cartridge
    2. TT PSU

Then as long as you have the turntable on a light rigid wall shelf, or well decoupled floor stand, you're there. Really - enjoy what your ears tell you and not what the words on this forum (including these!) try to tell you.

If you got it already, might as well try the butcher block from your kitchen with some foam blocks under it. Just re-level the table after you place it on top. Makes a significant difference even with a wall shelf - might sound better to you too. (Yes, I told Raunch to do this.. ;))

I have a P3 and would be keen to consider some of these upgrades but have no experience whatsoever in turntable modifications. Is the link above the best idiot proof guide to upgrades?

Where's the best place to buy some of this stuff in the UK?

Also, I'm going to take the turntable to a local dealer to have a new cartridge and stylus fitted soon, they quoted me an additional £50 for a service. Is this worthwhile?

Here are some links from another forum (Vinyl Engine) that show step-by-step guides to Rega Upgrades. Users review each upgrades to see if they are worth while. Lots of great pictures & should help answer most questions that anyone has.
