there is so much trashing of remasters on this board (sometimes justified, sometimes not).....what are the greatest improvements?

I like the Kiss, Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, Steely Dan, Blue Oyster Cult, Z.Z. Top (Tres Hombres and Fandango done by Ludwig), Beatles mono and stereo and Jethro Tull. I'm sure there are others I just can't think of and I'm sure I'll be called out on some of these. :D

    Recent Lennon remasters.

  4. I'd also suggest the Lennon remasters especially compared to the 2000 remixes and the NR'd releases.

Thomas Dolby's first two albums are great sounding.

I know some folks dislike them but I do prefer some of the Roxy Music remasters to the original EG releases--the originals have more dynamic range but the remasters were in many instances prepared from the original matertapes as opposed to the LP masters prepared or copies.

Voulez-vous 2010 deluxe edition. which is also the second best out of the only two decent sounding abba cd issues - the First being the 1982 cd polygram pressing of The Visitors album, of course. Other than that, some great remasters are:

•Al Stewart - Year of the Cat
    •The Sting remasters
    •Talk Talk - It's My Life
    •Jean Michel Jarre 1997 remasters
•and, although many would disagree, I believe the recent Alan Parsons Project remasters to be an improvement soundwise.

The 2002 Traffic remasters (non-NR versions). I think they could give the MOFIs a run for their money...

Beatles and thus far Paul McCartney's Archive Collection.
Lennon's were better than what came out in 1990. Still like the remixes, though.
Cheap Trick was pretty good as was Rod Stewart's and Elton John remasters of their earlier albums.

I'll put in a thumbs up for the new Yep-Roc reissue of Nick Lowe Labour of Lust. Not too digitally edgy or tinnny. A little bright, but not headache inducing or ear bleeding. Could sound a little more warm and analog. Overall nice, punchy & detailed. I'd still give the nod to the sound of the LOL tracks on either the Demon 16 All Time Lowes,or US Columbia Basher CD. These sound a bit closer to the original vinyl.
