"February 10 will see the release of a remastered Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys. This album will re-issue from Capitol Records."

Heahoahao! Does anyone have info on how this will be "better" than the HDCD version that is (was?) in print?

Damn! I was hoping the DCC was coming back into print! :(

I guess I just have one question: Why again?

Better not be a digital product. Does this make 5 issues on digital including DVD-A??

Betcha it's something else. SACD layered or vinyl. Otherwize, the horse says "uncle!"

If it is an SACD I'll buy it, even though I certainly don't expect it to be as good as the DCC LP. I'll be able to listen to it at work.

My guess is that since they "remastered" it for the DVD-A, this will be from those masters. This is the new "we dithered it from more bits" remaster LOL

And I'll bet there's another "Best Of" comp out in June too, eh?

Yikes. This would make the third Pet Sounds ceedee since 1999 - the original mono/stereo twofer, the 2001 revision with the pro-tooled stereo "Wouldn't It Be Nice" (which flies Mike's bridge vocals back in), and now the 2004 edition.

Does anyone else see a pattern? I wonder what 2007 has in store for us.

I have considered but have not yet sprung for the mono/stereo 2-fer. Since the DCC is kinda pricey these days, is this version the best of those non-DCC versions currently available?

If you have the DCC, why bother? Well, liner notes I suppose, but otherwise it's money down the drain.. Just IMO.

Maybe, oh maybe, someone at Capitol will use the DCC mastering? Right.... :D

There is a sign in the boardroom at Capitol. I've never seen it or heard of it. It says "Soak 'em".

Excellent question. I'd guess it'd be some way to tie it in the the Rolling Stone list - put it out again with that notation and some claim about being new and improved. But geez, how many times can they re-release the same damned album?

Yeah. Gotta have the Box Set. Maybe even a few of the Sea Of Tunes for trim. If you care about how the album was done, the box set is rich for information and studio parts. It's very good.

Not to thread crap, but the Beach Boys are like the Beatles to me...I just can't "hear" them any more...if you know what I mean.

At any rate, how many times are they going to release this collection? It seems to me every year I hear about another incarnation of this thing being released.

Also upcoming on the Capitol reissue schedule (dates approximate):

July 7: Classics: Selected by Mike Love
Companion piece to Brian's selections album of a few years ago.

    Sep 24: Endless Autumn
A compilation of the very best Beach Boys tracks, some remastered
from newly discovered sources. 29 tracks. This marks the first time
exactly 29 Beach Boys hits have appeared on one CD in the US.

Nov 30: Keepin The Summer Alive (Again)
(Date subject to change). A 2 CD issue of the much anticipated
summer Brian Wilson Plays the Complete Keepin' The Summer
Alive album live. This tour will mark the first time Brian has ever
played many of these tracks live. Backup will be provided by the
band The First Class and a four piece orchestra.

    I'm psyched!

The sad part is... I own every damn version of this record! The only version of "Pet Sounds" I would definitely say is worthless is the 2001 stereo remaster with the "correction" of Mike Love's vocal on the bridge of "Wouldn't It Be Nice." The synch-up is so bad it sounds like a demented merry-go-round about to fly off the tracks.

Any truth to the rumor that the Pet Sounds reissue cover photo will be changed to an outtake from the session at the San Diego Zoo showing Al and Mike milking a cow dry?
    No friggin' shame.
    None.
    Zip.
    Nada.
