What an energized sound they had! I love every album o0f the 70s, especially ENERGIZED, FOOL FOR THE CITY and LIVE Every album of the 70s has this unique juicy rock sound. Their music never gets boring. The band still exists led by Roger Earl, the only surviving member of the first albums. The history of Foghat is also a history of loss. Most of the members from the 70s are no longer with us. So it is really time to remember them. Dave Peverett – lead vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards (1971-1984, 1993-2000; died 2000) Rod Price – lead guitar, backing vocals (1971-1980, 1993-1999; died 2005 Craig MacGregor – bass (1976-1982, 2005-2015; died 2018) Erik Cartwright – lead guitar, backing vocals (1981-1984; died 2017) So, here is their music: A non stop of 5 albums: 1972 - Foghat 1974 - Energized 1975 - Fool For The City 1977 - Foghat Live 1980 - Tight Shoes I remember...having discovered FOGHAT much too late. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M30-Gds7vCg Here they are in the 70s at Don Kirshner. GREAT!!! The legend lives on!!!
Their 90's reunion stuff is pretty excellent as well but once Dave Peverett & Rod Price died, it was over. They should change the name to Fauxhat.
Saw them in '73 ('74 maybe??) at Merriweather Post Pavilion with Johnny Winter. Great show. Genuine party band.
The first record was my favorite, Dave Edmund's production was perfect for them. I like them all until Boogie Motel, 1979. It did not boogie. That album series you posted is missing some good records, like Rock n Roll, Rock n Roll Outlaws, Stone Blue and Night Shift. A good collection is the Complete Bearsville Collection, 13 albums. There are a couple of post Rod price stinkers.
I had Fool for the City. My friend had Live!. They were great in concert until they seemed to be the starting band for every show we went to (around 1977), but they were a fun band to see and never let us down.
For most of the 80s there were two Foghats...One led by Lonesome Dave in LA, the other by Roger Earl in New England. The latter band played around Boston all the time-- opening virtually every classic rock show there was. That band's only release was a Christmas single in 1988:
My cover band in 1978 covered Fool For The City from the live album. That album and Live & Dangerous by Lizzy were both impressive. Tight bands....
1973's Rock 'n' Roll can't be forgotten, great stuff. Rock and Roll Outlaws and Fool For The City are also favourites. Have played Girls to Chat & Boys to Bounce and Boogie Motel quite a few times this year. Not bad.
Their first three albums are must-haves and the only ones I like. After Energized I lost interest, just as they got famous for Slow Ride.
Love their first 3 records. I saw them at the Schaefer Music Festival in Central Park in September 1974. Talk about Energized! They rocked. It was also a memorable night because Bad Company opened and Jimmy Page joined them for the encore.
Saw them 3 times. In 1983 with Erik, Lonesome Dave's Foghat in 1993 and the reunion ('94?). All at val du lakes in Hart Michigan. My band also got to open for Lonesome Dave's Foghat . The first time in '83 i couldn't hear for a couple of days after i seen them !
I saw them in the 70s twice...the first time they were up between Montrose w/ Sammy and J. Geils headlining. Foghat held their own, but I'm partial to boogie blues rock. I'm a big fan of the first three albums...remember when Energized was released. Some great songs... I Just Wanna Make Love To You Leaving Again Sarah Lee Highway (Killing Me) Step Outside Golden Arrow I Feel So Bad It's Too Late
Love them overall, and I love Savoy Brown, too. My favorite Foghat album is actually Stone Blue. For one, Rod Price's slide work is on another level on that album. His soloing on the title track is particularly sublime. It's a major component in building the whole thing to a frenzy, including on the extended outro.
Never saw them live......had a few albums by them (Energized, R & R Outlaws, Live). Picked up a great compilation a few years ago (Raven Records) that is now out of print.
I dig Foghat, but one of my favorite lines ever in the movie 'Kingpin': "Your act is about as fresh as a Foghat concert!" Harsh!
All I know about them other than a couple of hits is how many times I’ve seen their albums in discount bins. The long version of “Slow Ride” is amazing I Might give them a listen some time. Just a wild guess how they got their name, say their name as fast as possible
