Was digging through a box of DVDs looking for a few movies to watch over the coming weeks and pulled this comedy gem out. It's cued up for a later tonight viewing.

When this was first released in 2004 , I resisted watching it for reasons that are unclear to me now. I suppose the whole puppet thing was somewhat off-putting and it just didn't seem like something I'd enjoy.

Well...when I 'm wrong I'm wrong in a big way. ! This movie is hilarious, a sharp and witty satire combined with sophisticated juvenile humour.

If you've seen it you know exactly what I mean and please comment on your favourite bits. If you haven't seen it you're missing out on a great comedy. I urge you to watch it and feel free to comment on your favourite bits.

My favorite part is the America theme song. Crazy, smart, offensive, movie.

OMG the montage scene of the puppets getting it on was so weird and hilarious.
    A really subversively funny movie.

The opening, which culminates with the Eiffel Tower getting knocked over, is hilarious.

Just finished watching it. Hysterical. I had forgotten lots of little bits and pieces.
Love that whole Film Actor's Guild sequence.

Never understood the appeal. Pretty juvenile humor and not even well made at that, felt like an old 60s childrens show and the old show did it better too.

    I actively disliked the movie.

The movie got my money , so it won.

I have a sense of humor, but for the life of me I could not find they were making fun of jingoism , or even "both sides" - it just seems like a Libertarian who listened to AM talk radio and their view of the "leftie" world in 2004. Plus over the top sex and violence with Marionettes .

Too focused on perceived "smarminess" of the politicians - but they try to dress it up up a parody or satire.

Seemed as lazy as Orgasmo and/or Basketball --or like 9 of 14 South Park episodes in any season.

Big SWING and a miss for me.

    But I'll always have SPBLU.

It was so funny the way it gored everyone's ox instead of pandering like a cable news show. Loud, stupid politics from actors, stupid big budget action films, loud stupid jingoism- it all gets lampooned and the more it repeats the funnier it is.

    "Matt Damon!"

"I've been to Iraq You Know."

    "America. F***k yeah!"

The makers said it was such a huge pain in the *** to shoot that they'd never consider doing another puppet movie. Just like the South Park movie and The Book of Mormon, the first 40 minutes are amongst the most LOL funny things I've ever seen :biglaugh:

The sex scene had me laughing so hard I thought I was gonna stroke out. The Film Actors Award show and the durka lurka bar scene get honorable mention.

That's what my wife thought too, then about 5 minutes into the movie she was laughing so hard she had tears rolling down her face. That continued for pretty much the entire movie. We haven't watched it in quite a long time, so I might have to search it out again.

Funny, even though we haven't watched it in a long time, I don't think a month or even a couple of weeks go by without a reference to the movie.

My wife and I saw this in 2004 at the AMC in Disney World, of all places. Wanted to take a break from a hot day of walking around in the blazing sun, and decided to see this on a whim. There were two other people in the theater, and all four of us were laughing uncontrollably the whole time.

One of the best movies of the past 20 years. Easily.

Couple of years ago, I went to see “Book of Mormon” in the West End in the afternoon, followed by a double bill of South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, and Team America: World Police at the Prince Charles Cinema in London.

Dear lord, my face hurt by the end of that day. :D

They put in puppet scat scenes. Just to have something over the top to concede to the ratings board to keep it from an higher rating. The DVD was the first time I saw that and can do without that puppet P and poo again. EEEWEWWW GAH-ROSSS

I see what you did there.

In a porno , that would be a fairly hard-core scene but here it's outrageously funny..
