    Interesting topic. The first thing that came to mind for me is this epic tune by composer Eyvind Kang- it's a three chord progression/two lyric that builds and builds, adding instruments or voices in every few mins. IT'S MEGA! This guys is a classically trained professor so I think he simplified things to create exactly the effect that OP has in his thread title.

    Funny how we use the term "hypnotic" to describe repetitious music we like, but "repetitious" if the music annoys us.
