    Report on my new speakers...

I purchased a "used" pair of Meadowlark Heron Hot Rods (for a very, very good price) and they arrived Friday (2 very large boxes that a visiting friend signed for and had to lug to the apartment/sorry Mark). I set them up Saturday (keeping the spikes off until I'm decided on placement) and they sound amazing. I'm experimenting with the Audio Psychic's set-up philosophy (mainly because it'll work better with my choice for the living room esthetics/also they are time coherent). I'm driving them with my Dynaco ST-70 (seems to have plenty of steam/have not noticed any clipping or other strange stuff due to it's 35 watts). How can I describe the sound (try, baby, try)? I'm getting a very nice, wide soundstage. There is wonderful depth and imaging. The speaker's almost disappear and there is very inviting music. The Heron's come with 4 port pucks (2 for each speaker) which are supposed to help tame the bass (which goes down to around 25hz) in different rooms. I was getting a little boom (which may improve when I install the spikes, hook-up a new pre-amp, finish decorating the living room, etc.), so at present I'm using 1 puck in each speaker which seems to have smoothed the bass a little. Another great thing about the sound of these speakers is that the music performances do seem more realistic. Cymbals, vocals, guitars, piano, etc. seem to have their own texture, space, size and presence. Anyway, this is my "meager" report and I'll post later updates when I get the Y&S preamp, finalize placement, install spikes, etc.

    Todd,

Can ya feel the jealeousy flowing through my fingers?;)
Can you tell me exactly what is Audio Psychic's set-up? I didn't notice it the first time you were discussing it. THX. Congrats on the really awesome system.:)

Thanks, Dave. I had a lot of money saved up and sold some things to purchase these. I went a bit beyond my budget but I really wanted to "treat" myself to something special after all this stress of my marriage's break-up and other things. My wife would never have approved with the purchase of these speakers and that of course made the deal a bit more tempting...

Here's a link which explains the AP set up:

Steve or anyone, have you heard anything of the new "Kite" speaker Meadowlark is working on?

Welcome to the Meadowlark club, Steve! Let us know how the Blue Herons sound (I think they need something like 300-500 hours break-in time/lend them to Tom Port for a few weeks...). :)
