A Discogs seller has in his terms a 15% restocking fee on all returns. Now, I've had a few sellers on eBay and Discogs lately enthusiastically describing their LPs as being in NM condition when they easily fell under VG+ or even VG.

If this seller's LP is not accurately advertised and I were to return it, is the restocking fee enforceable or will PayPal refund me the full amount regardless of what the seller writes in his terms? Could it possibly be a tactic to lower the chances of doing business with picky buyers? Or OTOH trying to keep a bit more money even if his items aren't properly described?

I would speculate that there's no way a seller could initiate or enforce a "restocking fee" if their products are not accurately graded. I could see how it may apply to brand new items though unless there is something along the lines of a Vinyl pressing flaw which could easily be proven.

The seller can try to deduct a restocking fee but if you make a claim via Paypal, they will refund the rest of it.

Any seller terms on Discogs or eBay is trumped by both the eBay guarantee and the Paypal guarantee.

You should take that restocking fee as a warning. Should the record arrive not as described, you will not have a pleasant return experience. Not saying don't buy, but just be prepared for the inevitable arguing with the seller. :)
