Played the ryko pins ups yesterday great sounding cd and love that bowie uses all of his vocal ranges on it to great affect! Plus you get the added bonus of growing up and port of amsterdam
Not true. Only the following titles below have not been used again [the other bonus tracks from that campaign have popped up on other various releases since]. Lightning Frightening Quicksand (Demo) The Bewlay Bros (Alt. Mix) John, I'm Only Dancing (Alt. Mix) Sound + Vision (1991 Remix) Joe The Lion (1991 Remix) Look Back In Anger (1988)
Don't forget Bombers. Other than the Bowie At The Beeb version I can't recall any releases having Bombers as a track. Lightning Frightening had a couple bootleg releases like The Arnold Corns Sessions.
curious as to why you didn’t just put “recorded by The Doors” why the need to insert “overrated” it seems pointless
I love that part too. I was so put off by the virgin version. A few years ago I finally rebought the ryko version. Has anyone heard parlophone's version from the box set a few years ago?
Bombers was included on the officially released Bowpromo. Anything included on a bootleg is a moot point.
I have all my ryko cds minus Low and Heroes, I have those two on the later 1998 cds. I love the rykos and the bonus tracks. I made a cdr of just the bonus tracks. I also have a couple of albums on the clear vinyl, Man Who Sold the World and Pin Ups. Those ryko pressings sound really good.
Where else can I Pray, Ole be found? Should have been on Lodger originally instead of Yassasin. Available officially elsewhere only on the Boys Keep Swinging 2019 7” picture disc.
I would swap Red Money as I just want to hear Sister Midnight and Iggy’s vocal instead. I always skip it.
This is pretty much the main reason to still be interested in the Ryko discs. "Bombers" still doesn't have a digital release other than the Ryko Hunky Dory CD. Tracks still M.I.A. in current 2010's Re:Call remastered CD catalogue (later reissues noted). The Man That Sold The World (bonus tracks) * Lightning Frightening Hunky Dory (bonus tracks) * Bombers * The Supermen (Alternate Version) * Quicksand (Demo Version) * The Bewlay Brothers (Alternate Mix) The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust (bonus tracks) * John, I'm Only Dancing (Previously Unreleased Mix) * Sweet Head (Previously Unreleased Track) - reissued on the 30th Anniversary edition as a different edit * Ziggy Stardust (Previously Unreleased Original Demo) - reissued on the 30th Anniversary edition * Lady Stardust (Previously Unreleased Original Demo) - reissued on the 30th Anniversary edition Pin-Ups * Growin' Up - reissued on the 30th Anniversary edition of Diamond Dogs. Diamond Dogs * Dodo - reissued on the 30th Anniversary edition of Diamond Dogs. * Candidate (Demo Version) - reissued on the 30th Anniversary edition of Diamond Dogs. David Live * Band Intro (Ryko mix) * Here Today, Gone Tomorrow (Ryko mix) * Time (Ryko mix) Young Americans * It's Gotta Be Me (with Strings) - Young Americans Special Edition Station To Station * Word On A Wing (live) (Ryko mix) * Stay (live) (Ryko mix) Low * Some Are - reissued on All Saints * All Saints - reissued on All Saints * Sound And Vision (Remixed Version, 1991) Heroes * Abdulmajid * Joe The Lion (Remixed Version, 1991) Lodger * I Pray, Olé * Look Back In Anger (1988 re-recording) Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) * Panic In Detroit (Re-Recorded, Previously Unreleased, 1979)
I've seen more then one person slag on Red Money , I Don't get it as I love that tune. Different Strokes I guess. I love the Doors and Bowie did too. I'm in good company.
Wasn't the Sound And Vision remix also included on the 808 State single ? The Look Back In Anger (1988) was also included on the Rykodisc Bowie/Eno sampler.
I jumped into Bowie's catalog in the mid-90's with the Ryko Changesbowie disc, and started buying up the rest of his albums from there. The 1999 (?) reissue campaign started as I was still collecting that stuff, so I wound up with the following: Ryko: Ziggy Stardust David Live Low Heroes Lodger Scary Monsters Ziggy Stardust Motion Picture Changesbowie RCA: Space Oddity Man Who Sold the World Hunky Dory Aladdin Sane Pin Ups Young Americans Station to Station Stage Let's Dance Tonight Never Let Me Down Deluxe versions: Station to Station Diamond Dogs Not sure what the consensus is on the different versions in terms of sound quality. I've not found it necessary to re-purchase anything I have on the Ryko versions, and haven't bothered with the recent box sets.
Is there a preference for the Rykos that came in the green jewel case vs. the ones that came in the generic ones? They seem to have the same bar codes and catalog numbers. I have 10 greens still in shrink wrap. Didn't want to ruin them, and then bought most of them again in the generic cases, which I do play.
:::Back in the day there was an independent music store in a mall where one girl and his brother were behind the counter And I also recall her name: Argelia. She was unboxing --I saw with my own eyes-- the full CD catalogue of Ryko Bowie in longboxes, to put them on the shelves for sell. I remember that image and It was heaven. In that store I only bought 'ChangesBowie' from Ryko in longbox, I still Own it and still sounds great in a decent volume, probably a little punchy on bass but I never needed to buy a newer compilation, except for the 1993 Singles Collection 3CD, from Ryko too, because it had remix, edited versions of the songs. This one had green tinted cd trays and a Bowie catalogue (which I clipped to put the cd covers inside a mix tape-Bowie cassette insert that I gave to a former girlfriend (it was worth). Also there I bought many cd singles, among them 'Jump They Say' US digipak, DM's singles from SOFAD,etc. I recall have read on RS Mag about the Sound And Vision box set --here's the original article I did read on paper magazine. Sound + Vision
