I feel the same BUT many enjoy it so the “problem” is with me, not them. It is a phase all these threads go through, just as they go through a phase where i argue the virtues/faults of a remix with those whose interest that holds.
Man o man, good question. I find them from all over but don’t have a straight path to provide. There is a site here in the US called Archive.org and though the search engine can be quite wonky, I can get to a lot of captured material. For example, today’s ride I listened to a January 2, 1968 aircheck from Nashville’s WMAK AM. No Bealtes, but lots of great mid-south US RnB/pop/rock and I learned that an ice storm on Jan 1 forced a lot of schools, events and work closures. Last week was a Philadelphia broadcast that delivered the Top 5 singles for the first week of Dec 1967 and Hello Goodbye came in at no. 2. And immediately following HG was an awesome ad for Capitol Records featuring the “new” Beatles album Magical Mystery Tour and The Beach Boys Wild Honey, featuring the hit “Darlin’”. Moments like that are pretty cool!
archive.org does never cease to amaze. One of the most important projects, culturally impossible to overrate. If you ask me, it should be thanked and supported by the global community, creatives and governing bodies. I would advocate for a global federation of such archives. What they are doing is invaluable and of great cultural importance. I have humbly uploaded some of my own community radio work, because I am always happy to find other peoples'. I advocate for anyone to do whatever we can to support and and enable them to extend their work. We, many others and hopefully future generations will thank us (not, as I hope thay will see it as an essential tool for satisfying their cultural and educational curiosity but hopefully rightfully be able to take it for granted).
Oh yea…if others enjoy something but I don’t, it’s definitely my own problem, not theirs. I didn’t mean to make it sound like the reverse. It’s a personal non-preference.
Yes, on Readly it has already dropped. Beatles on the cover. (Though ... one of my favourite pet peeves ... why they have to release a so called November issue in September is something that is beyond my comprehension and something I will never cease to question ... It has anoyed me several times when searching for reviews or articles from, say, 20 years ago. I also think it is bibliographically incorrect and do not dare to wake up my inner archivist or librarian.) And all that just to be psychologically ahead on the news stand. I did not like or understand it back in the 90s, I do not like or understand it today. Love the magazine as such, though.
Ray Davies (The Kinks) didn't like it. He thought 'Eleanor Rigby' sounded like something made to impress grade school music teachers.
No, from a magazine called the 'Disc and Music Echo'. I actually appluad his gall, it's a pretty scathing review.
Yes! I mentioned last week I bought a copy. Looking for more Revolver themed mags up coming week(s). Mojo ( November) Highly recommend!!!!
