FWIW I'm listening to Crocodiles right now and it sounds good to my ears ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Don't have an original to compare to, but I hear nothing wrong with this pressing. Discogs reviews consensus of all 4 seem to be the opposite of here.
Ocean Rain is good and worth the price. I’ll probably play it more than my original Japanese pressing. My Porcupine pressing was bad.
Air has a good rep but I don't know Webber's work. Does he not sign his lacquers? Or did he just do digital mastering and then send hirez files to Optimal? Too bad more detail is not available here.
I agree. Maybe Rhino will write me back with more info. My Ocean Rain is a nice pressing though. I'm very happy with it.
Should we start a dedicated thread to Echo and the Bunnymen on vinyl? I searched the forum and couldn’t find one focused on different pressings and sound quality—just appreciation threads. If there is one already and I missed it, I hope someone will point me to it! I’d like to keep the E&TB convo going without highjacking this Rocktober thread, but perhaps nobody else does lol.
I forgot how great Echo and the Bunnymen are You can use this one as it's the most recent general Bunnymen thread.
I bought Crocodiles, Ocean Rain and Heaven and they all sound great on my system, plenty dynamic and perfect pressings.
Has anyone seen an online retailer that still has copies of Heaven Up Here for a good price? I bought from Luna Music, but they're sold out of Heaven Up Here.
Yep, I’m going for a copy myself of this one. I’m intrigued to hear how it compares with my other copies.
How does A Promise sound on the Heaven Up Here reissue? On my old German copy it's quieter than the rest of the album and a little muffled sounding.
“A Promise” was recorded three months after the rest of the album at a studio in Norway (the rest of the album was recorded in Wales). It will always sound different because of the circumstances. Granted, it should be at the same volume level as the rest of the album.
Well, other than a half-dozen or so posts on the first two pages, it does seem like the Echo and the Bunnymen releases are the only records being discussed here. Would still like to find out more about the Hedwig release (which version it is, and possibly a bit about the quality if someone's purchased the record). It's kind of unfortunate that Rhino did not provide more clarity in it's advertising. I've seen cover art advertising for the Rocktober Hedwig showing both the John Cameron Mitchell and the Neil Patrick Harris artwork. Which version is it?
Do you know who cut this pressing? The original cast is probably my favorite version of these songs, though the digital versions are compressed badly!
