I heard at first Ringo & McCartney duet on Grow Old With Me....now the descriptions have slipped all the way down to, McCartney sings 'some' backround vocals...urgh

I'm wondering if its gonna be like La De Da. Ringo...a little bit of Paul & 89 of Ringo's closest friends. Are we going to hear just the two of them, singing some lines together at all ?

Ringo and Paul are listed as the only vocalists on the song.

I'm guessing Paul sings a harmony on the "Spending our lives together..." bridge part, but that it's all Ringo otherwise, which would jive with Ringo's "Paul sings some" comment.

Here's the liner notes from Ringo's website:

Grow Old With Me (John Lennon)

    Drums, Vocals: Ringo Starr

    Bass, BGV: Paul McCartney

    Guitar: Joe Walsh

    Piano: Jim Cox

    Violin: Rhea Fowler, Bianca McClure

    Viola: Lauren Baba

    Cello: Isaiah Gage

    Accordion: Allison Lovejoy

String Arrangement by Jack Douglas, Daniel Cole

Assistant Engineer on string session: Wesley Seidman

I'm really curious what the accordion does on this song.

And I wish Paul had played the piano part as well. But Cox seems like a pro, so there you go.

Maybe they are doing it in a zydeco style.

"Hey Jole Blon won't you grow old along with me,
Down on the bayou the best is yet is be..."

I'm pretty close to Acadiana in Louisiana, and I've heard lots of rock/pop done by zydeco bands. Not sure I've ever heard a Beatles song though.

I recall Paul doing "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" off Run Devil Run with some zydeco flavor and accordion.

That sounds a little better...than the bad things I was imagining.....

When the story broke,, from Jack Douglas's partially misinterpreted comments at Beatlefest....The first thing that came to my mind...was the Walk With Me song from several years ago, where it wasn't a true duet exactly, but Paul did the nice intimate answer backing vocal in 2012,, whenever it was....but thinking of McCartney's recent state of vocal ability, & knowing when Ringo & Paul get together, in the studio, the collaboration generally is only for a few hours...so I wasn't expecting a 76-77 year old McCartney to stack several parts like they did on Because, Sun King or Uncle Albert or whichever....but I was hoping per Jack Douglas, a duet they sound great together etc etc....we'll see, nothing bad about it, I think it was overhyped for a few days, without clarification, the more clarification we recieved, the level of collaboration seemed to keep decreasing...

And now we know why there are so few zydeco Beatles covers!

My point in mentioning the wedding performance was that it illustrated that it had penetrated public consciousness; it was nothing to do with me or this forum or even fans of John that I knew; I didn't know the couple personally.

You know seeing how the Abbey Road deluxe edition is out this Friday I wonder if Ringo will release Grow Old With Me this Friday considering that it has a line from Here Comes The Sun in it

The "line" is a new addition done in the string arrangement of "Grow Old With Me" that duplicates a part of the music from "Here Comes The Sun". So it is a musical quote (not a lyrical quote). Jack Douglas was one of the string arrangers for Ringo's version of the song.

A change that occurred about 40 years and a dozen studio albums ago. I believe the last album with a second or alternate drummer on more than a couple tracks was Steve Gadd on Ringo the IVth

Wow! I love the man! I hope I like his next album as much as I did "Sentimental Journey". It is so gratifying to know he still has that magic. Long live Ringo and Paul.

    Here's me speculating:

If we get one more track as a pre-release single, it'll be released on October 11.
If we get two more tracks, one will be released on October 4 and the other on October 18.

I read somewhere that there's an additional track coming out after "What's My Name", but the timeline I presented could give logical implications that there could be two with correct spacing.

    Dr. Pepper What, me worry?

I think Ringo probably feels like that is as much his signature as Peace and Love is, but he doesn't do signatures anymore, so who knows.
