No worries ... I see it's all been fixed now anyway so visitors to this thread will just see my seemingly sincere desire for more typographic emphasis! :p

  4. So from a business standpoint, is it wiser to liquidate such things before death ?
Is it simply a matter of wanting to oversee such sales while he's still here ?

As someone suggested earlier, it could be some sort of charity thing.

If it were me, I'd be hard pressed to let such a unique item go, but heck, holding on to it until he's dead has little advantage. And he probably doesn't care that much about it anyway. I think it;d be harder to part with the drum kit!

I think it's the same situation today. Low numbered limited editions are not necessarily the earliest pressings and certainly the number and the number of the record that came off the press being the same is a mistaken notion.
Can anyone confirm of any release that was done that way?
There are people who want you to believe that their low numbered copy is going to sound better than a higher or unnumbered copy. Marketing hype IMO.

Actually, I believe they each got a copy with the number 0000001. It would not have been that hard to do.

I was going to bid on it, but since Julien's doesn't know the difference between insure and ensure, I have to eschew from doing so. :p

McCartney has decided to buy it and donate it to Michael Jackson's estate.

Surprised it's "only" $20-40k, in the sense that it's very likely Ringo's net worth fluctuates daily by much more than that depending how the financial markets behave. So it's probably a charity thing or desire to liquidate/simplify rather than any need for "fast cash."

From what I've heard over the years it seems there may be as many as 35 copies that have the 00000001.

After reading the drumkit description, even if I could afford it, without the iconic original Beatles drop T drum head it wouldnt be what Id pay that kind of money for. All original, just like vintage cars, or no sale. Cough the drum head up Paul.

As for me, I don't have enough money; but we can do a fundraiser here on this board: if we win the auction, we can keep the copy #00000001 at the home of Mr Steve Hoffman who would then be obliged to accommodate us at his own home every time each of us wish to listen to the "White Album".... :D
  19. He's getting older and trying to clean up his estat before he departs this realm.
  20. No one is being forced to buy it.

Even though that 000001 has history, it's no different than yours or mine--except Ringo handled it. I can pass in that one.

Those blisters he got on his fingers on Helter Skelter bring back sad and traumatic memories for him.
