Very true. Both of the senior cats that I adopted had kidney issues. We have a water fountain that attracts them much more than a water bowl ever did and feed only canned cat food. Both of those are the best ways to stave off kidney or urinary issue, but they should be started sooner rather than later in a cats life.

Once kidney issues are identified you can supplement with an aluminum hydroxide powder, which binds with some of the waste that the kidneys used to filter out. It won’t cure them, but you will get more time with them.

This is what being grumpy all the time gets you.

I've never been fond of cats - much prefer dogs or guinea pigs - but when we went live together, my GF brought along her grandmother's cat.

Truthfully, she was nasty and vicious to everyone, except my GF and her mother.

Eventually, I got used to her, hmmmm, "demeanour", and when she passed away three years ago... I actually found myself missing her. Every single day, she'd be at the same spot, facing the door, as if waiting for me to get home and hiss "this is my turf, ugly".

... not quite sure where I was going with that, but I guess the Grumpy Cat's disapproving glare kinda reminded me of her.

    RIP, little princess.

It's always sad when a beloved pet passes away, but this one brought a lot of laughter into a troubled world, so is particularly painful. RIP to a fellow curmudgeon.

7 is indeed young for a cat but I believe Grumpy Cat had some physiological issues like dwarfism and a flat face. What a sad time for her family.

    RIP kitty.
