Former SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison has died at the age of 46.

The news of his passing was broken in a statement from his family.

The statement reads: "We are heartbroken to share the news that Joey Jordison, prolific drummer, musician and artist passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26th, 2021. He was 46.

"Joey's death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow.

"To those that knew Joey, understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart and his love for all things family and music.

"The family of Joey have asked that friends, fans and media understandably respect our need for privacy and peace at this incredibly difficult time.

"The family will hold a private funeral service and asks the media and public to respect their wishes."

Terribly sad news. A fantastic drummer and all round decent fella by most accounts. Taken far too soon.

Of course the most important thing to remember amongst the grief is good thread-titling practice :shake:

Sad to hear, especially in that he was so young.

I didn't know until now the following from the Rolling Stone article about his passing:

"He stayed with [Slipknot] through 2013 when left the band for what he described at the time as 'personal reasons.' A few years later, he revealed that the reason he exited the band was a neurological disease. 'I got really, really sick with a horrible disease called transverse myelitis, I lost my legs,' he told the audience at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards in 2016, according to NME. 'I couldn’t play anymore. It was a form of multiple sclerosis, which I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I got myself back up, and I got myself in the gym and I got myself back in f---ing therapy, to f---ing beat this s---.' At the time, he said he was rededicating himself to music with a new band called Vimic."

  8. Goddamn, what a horrible performance! The only one playing well is Joey.

Otherwise, let it be a joy that Joey accomplished every single thing he was able to do, otherwise he would still be here.

Can't say as I was a Slipknot fan, but you'd be remiss if you didn't appreciate the impact they had on heavy music. I got to meet him once and he was a very sweet guy. What a terrible disease for a drummer to have.

Though I never was a huge fan of Slipknot (I like Psychosocial a lot, though,) I always appreciated Joey's drumming skills very much! He was a monster musician! I hope he's jamming with the greats right now: Ginger Baker, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Hal Blaine, Neil Peart, and Buddy Rich!

The guy was insanely talented. His feet could do things my hands can’t. Big loss. WAY too young.

Joey was a force to be reckoned with. Not only was he a gifted drummer, but a booker as well. Joey brought quite a few extreme metal bands to Iowa in the 90s.

I can't say I was a Slipnot fan, but I could appreciate Joeys talents as a drummer. 46 is too damn young for anyone to be taken. RIP.
