RIP John Bluthal

Most Beatles fans will know him as Bhuta in "Help!" and the car thief in "A Hard Day's Night". He also was the blind beggar with the "minkey" in "Return of the Pink Panther". He had a long career in British TV and films. I always enjoyed his work.

Vicar of Dibley actor dies, aged 89

 

He often worked with Spike Milligan -

“Working with Spike is agony because he is impetuous and chaotic,” Bluthal explained of Milligan, who was prone to manic depression. Milligan was reputed to have said of his fellow actor: “I love John, but he’s so temperamental.”

He was very entertaining as Klang's right-hand man in "Help!" He's the one hobbling along the beach at the end shouting "I'm going to miss the sacrifice!" God bless him.

 

He had several funny lines in the film. Underrated performance, in my opinion.

Another familiar face from my youth has left us. Never realised he was the voice of Commander Zero in Fireball XL5.

 

I did not know he was the French Policeman in 'Allo 'Allo pissing by the door!

 

Ah, I worked on the home video of Return of the Pink Panther, and all of us were saying "I want a riiim for my minkey!" for months afterwards. Terrific character actor.
