It's interesting that an established actor like John Saxon somehow managed to never be in a role in a STAR TREK series. I could even imagine him as an actor who might have worked as a Captain Kirk, had Shatner not been available. Indeed, he managed to be Gene Roddenberry's choice to play Dylan Hunt in the TV-movie-pilot called PLANET EARTH.

Nonetheless, in the 1960's, he was chosen to appear in the Irwin Allen TIME TUNNEL as Marco Polo in "Attack Of The Barbarians."

Since it was one of my most watched movies as a kid, I'll always remember him as Sador from Battle Beyond The Stars.

These things always happen in "3's:"

    - Jack McIlhargey, former N.H.L. defenseman (Vancouver, Philadelphia, Hartford)
    - Peter Green
    - John Saxon

Great actor who could steal an entire picture with only one or two scenes--a common trademark among exploitation/cult actors. Love him in 1974's Black Christmas and 1978's Fast Company (co-starring with fellow Exploitation stars Claudia Jennings and William Smith).

The point being: three celebrity deaths in about one month.

Wow. John Saxon was one of those iconic actors you instantly recognized. I loved his performance in War Hunt with Robert Redford in 1962. He played a soldier who was a serial killer/psycho type. Intense performance. RIP.

The king of cool. A lot of actors starred in schlocky sci-fi/horror (The Bees, Hands of Steel), and tempered that with quality sci-fi/horror (Bava, Argento, Black Christmas) but how many also starred in 50's rock n roll pictures then held their own in a Bruce Lee film?

I have always liked John Saxon, I just watched an episode of The Rockford Files he was in.
I hadn't seen him in quite a long time, I assumed he was long retired.
He was quite active during the 1970s, I always associate him with better days and much better TV!
    RIP.

Of all of his many roles, his appearance on The Six Million Dollar Man is always the first thing that comes to mind for me. That scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.

He always reminded me of a not insane Michael Ironside. Or maybe Ironside was an insane Saxon.

Hopefully, TCM will pay tribute to Mr. Saxon's passing by broadcasting a marathon of his most notable film roles. RIP.

  16. Always liked Saxon. I remember him primarily from two TV movies—Planet Earth (a reboot of Genesis II) and it’s soft reboot Strange New World plus Nightmare. He also made numerous TV a-peareande as well.

He’s been burned in my brain for 45 years or so because of that. Just rewatched it a couple months back.

Absolutely loved him the moment I saw him on screen as a kid. I caught him once on a rerun of Dynasty where he played a sheikh. I was thrilled to see him in Mitchell. R.I.P.

John would have made a fine Klingon in TOS as well.

That episode of Rockford Files is especially good--Saxon gets to apply his martial arts skills whilst portraying a very complex character. This ep also reveals much of Rockford & Beth Davenport's (mmm) previously well-concealed undercurrents of romance.

Rockfish is the legend! I just recalled that Beth was Saxon's girlfriend, how pained she was at his deception and how Rockford comforted her. Course having seen the episode at least 5 times over the years didn't hurt
