I'm gonna spin a first Canadian pressing of Waylon's Honky Tonk Heroes tonight in honor of Norm. It was his favorite album of all time
Burt Reynolds himself once talked with Norm MacDonald about a Celebrity Jeopardy! sketch where the real Burt would come out and punch Norm in the face, then the real Burt would take over and be worse than the fake one. This ended up not happening when Norm got fired.
Great talent and funny as hell. He did an "appearance" on the Larry Sanders show and I was in tears from laughter. Godspeed Norm.
That’s a very touching way he described the battle he waged. After reading the sad news headline on CNN, my very first thought: Weiner Dog. Did he ever meet a poker game he didn’t like? He made people laugh. That alone means a lot. Rest In Peace, Mr. Macdonald.
The funniest of the Weekend Update anchors, because he never held back. He went after powerful people (or friends of powerful people) and paid the price. But the wicked laughs we had while he did so are memorable to this day. RIP Norm.
Bummer. I feel Norm was one of the greats. I can't stand stand-up but I could stand Norm. I think of him as one of the pioneers of changing comedy that came out of the 90's. I have a friend whom is a family friend of Norm's. She was planning on going out to see him before he passed. Unfortunately too late.
Several online sources do say 1963, but that appears to be incorrect. According to classmates.com, Norm graduated Gloucester High School in 1975. In this article, he claims he graduated high school at age 14. If correct, that would mean a birth year of 1960. No way he was born in 1963, which would make him 11 on graduation day 1975. Since 1959 is the most widely-cited birth year, I think the likely scenario is that he was born in 1959, was 15 when he graduated, and later engaged in deliberate obfuscation about his age.
Ah man this one hurts. I loved Norm on SNL as anchor. I remember just loving that he’d tell a joke and sometimes the audience didn’t laugh, didn’t grin, just silence. He seemed to revel in that. Savagely funny, but a big heart, sometimes on Twitter he could tell a really lovely story. But I live that I had to stop following him because he could post 100 tweets one night doing play by play for a live basketball game on tv. His final appearance on Letterman shows both sides. And of course his perfect roast appearance. For the birds! RIP norm.
