awful news. what a natural talent, force of nature. They brought many obscurities to light.

They covered the Ronettes' He Did It.

and in turn, inspired Ronnie to cover this song:

Damn, I know her. She's been here at my place as well
Gracious band who allowed me to make audio recordings of their gigs.

A number of news outlets have reported her to be 37 years old when she passed away. And, you wonder why no one takes internet sites seriously.

RIP. Great band. Great sound. Great voice. I was a Bloodshot Records fanatic and one of the (many many) pleasures was getting turned on to the Cobras. Their Bloodshot music was fantastic!!

I saw them for the first time in '96, and I'd put her age north of 50 at the time of her passing.

Great voice, great band, long time fan. Such a shame - I was wondering if they might surprise us with another album one of these days. I don't think they ever stopped touring. Both of their Sympathy albums are highly recommended. RIP Rachel, you sexy thing!

I always thought of her as a kind of spiritual heir to Ronnie Spector — with healthy dashes of Joan Jett and Mary Weiss (Shangri-La's) thrown in. And of course Rachael said that Irma Thomas was her idol. But to lose Ronnie and her in a week... it doesn't get much ****tier.

I found a great picture I took of her from an Asbury Park concert.

There were some technical problems, and Rachel was doing gymnastics on stage while they were being fixed. I snapped my phone camera at a great moment.

She worshipped Irma Thomas indeed and rightly so
They had the guts to tackle Irma's masterpiece that is " The Hurt's all gone "
    here is the original

    Just stumbled on this thread.
Another slice piled on to this absolute schitt sandwich of a day.

Life, Love & Leaving gets spun at my place at least once a month. The DCs opening for X in 2008 was one of the few X shows I couldn't attend in recent years. Thought I'd get another chance, but never did.

    My favorite DCs track:

    RIP, Ms. Nagy. :tiphat:

I've only just found this out, what awful news. I first heard the Detroit Cobras on the John Peel show. I saw them live in Manchester in the early 2000s. Rachel was a wild woman; the DCs were the best group of the 2000s I'd say.
