We visited the site at Mismaloya beach last year. Much of the stone block buildings still remain in pretty good shape. She had never seen the movie so when we got home we watched it. The location is marked with this iguana pole-

2 Charlie Sheen flicks that I haven't seen in some years. I remember both were ok

    Three for The Road (1987)
    The Chase (1994)

also recently watched The Marksman (2021) with Liam Neeson an ok road trip action drama..
for some reason it reminded me of The Mule (2018) with Clint Eastwood, but The Mule is a better one

Fandango (1985) Kevin Costner (starring in his first "released" film), Sam Robards and Judd Nelson
Directed by first timer, Kevin Reynolds. (Waterworld, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves)

Interesting story on how this film came about (which is why I posted the Wiki link) that was produced by Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment.
Spielberg ended up being so disappointed with the film, that they ended up barely releasing it, garnering only 91k in domestic box office.
(despite Quentin Tarantino claiming he saw the film 5x in the 1 week it was released)
It subsequently became a cult classic through tv airings (where I first caught it) and video rentals.

Follow the primary rule for watching road trip movies which is 'Avoid Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul', and you’ll be safe.

A couple with an alien riding shotgun: Paul and Starman.

On The Road certainly deserves a mention. (Interesting that it has Viggo Mortensen, who was in The Road as well)

First thing that came to mind were the great “Road To…” movies starring Bob Hope and Bing Crosby.
