Rob won’t care. If he cared what we think he would have stopped using his wife for a main character in every freaking movie.
Yeah, you can't "camp up" something that was already a camp take on horror movie tropes. I've mentioned this before, but it applies in this case - SCTV tried to parody Laverne & Shirley, and it turned out to be impossible. No matter how ridiculously they overplayed it, it just looked like a regular episode of Laverne and Shirley. Honestly, this looks like a really good porn parody of The Munsters - but missing the porn. Judged by the standards of a regular film, it's terrible.
Well I never had any love for the show to begin with so it’s hardly treading on sacred ground for me, but I don’t like Rob Zombie’s films either. I just have two very good reasons not to watch this movie when it comes out.
The actor playing Herman looks like he’s channeling Jim Carrey, his wimpy voice certainly wrecks his take on Herman.
The Munsters was one of my favorite shows since the day it appeared on TV in the 60's...still love it..I am quite disappointed. I really thought Rob was going to do a great job...
DVD/Blu is coming 9/27. I'll get it since I'm a completist (I love Corpses, Rejects and the Halloweens), but based on the trailer my hopes aren't high. I thought RZ's fifth film The Lords Of Salem was an impressive attempt at a serious/arthouse film and a hint at a new career direction for him, but that now appears to be a fluke. Everything he's made since has been a joyless descent into self-parody.
I'm trying to think of a worse film preview, and I can't. The fact that I have zero respect for Rob Zombies's movies, and his 'vision' means that I think I'll just let it be the worst ever.
From Superherohype... Rob Zombie’s The Munsters Will Get a Blu-ray and DVD Release Earlier this month, director Rob Zombie confirmed that The Munsters would hit Netflix this fall. However, it won’t be going straight-to-Netflix after all. Universal Pictures has announced that Rob Zombie’s The Munsters will be getting a Blu-ray, DVD, and digital release on September 27. But a theatrical release doesn’t appear to be in the cards.
I am guessing they age going to have to give this a short theatrical run, so it qualifies for the Academy Awards. The trailers like pure "Oscar Bait", this would easily receive 6 to 8 nods
They should strip the audio and adlib new dialogue like What’s Up, Tiger Lily. It can only be better. I’m actually heartbroken. I was really rooting for this until I saw the trailer. It had a nice mystique about it by not revealing the make up and such. A big budget version would have been fun. Jim Carey would have been interesting as Herman. Jack Nicholson as Grandpa.
I don't why so many are having a sh%65 fit over this.. I looks good to me I grew up with reruns in the 80's The Munsters is not high art.. it was always campy.. I guess some boomers are offended because someone dare mess with there childhood bubble.. Too bad.
To me, it isn't messing with any childhood bubble. It's that it looks horrible. The Munsters were campy, but when it looks like you're being campy on top of that, after the buildup of all this effort of trying to recreate 1313 Mockingbird Lane, try to get the look right and how Zombie was supposed to be such a huge fan, this is a big letdown. It looks more like someone's horribly made fan film or porn parody instead of what was geared to be a revival.
Well yeah; remember that “new” Three Stooges movie a few years ag0? Like.. sure let’s get three new guys to pretend to be the real Moe, Larry and Curley ? Excellent idea. Anyway, I’m Bud sure if someone put together a 2:30 trailer of the original show if that would look all that hilarious either. That show never struck me as having hilarious material but I always enjoyed watching Fred Gwynn and Al Lewis. For me personally I thought the Addams Family could be really funny much of the time, while the Munsters were lightly amusing . I’m sure some here will go in the other direction though, preference-wise.
