Hi Guys I need Help Anyone has "Shades Of Deep Purple" in MONO version? I've always listened to STEREO version When It came out was available initially In Stereo and then later in MONO What's the best ?
I got SHADES OF DEEP PURPPLE Warner Bros. Records – 20P2-2601 Japan 1989 I wanna mention, that analizing the Wave Form of .WAV tracks, 6/8 have Clipping To be honest, In my Opinion This Is not the reference version of teh Album To me, The best version available (at least Decent) is LP 1981 Warner Bros. Records P-6501W Japan
I am looking for the best-sounding digital release of Perfect Strangers. Is any of the newer CDs any good, or are the original Polydor CDs still the way to go?
The subsequent albums, maybe, but the timeline of Shades makes it likely a dedicated mono mix. I don’t listen to early purple much, but I definitely prefer it in mono on my headphones.
After a long, arduous and tiresome search, i finally found a mastering of the album "Burn" that is enjoyable to my ears. I compared every single version of this album, digital and analog, but i was only satisfied with the 1974 German LP by EMI, catalog 1C 062-94 837 D, Discogs link is Deep Purple - Burn . For you folks out there who also had a problem finding a good version of this record, believe me, this one is the best there is! I already spend my fair share buying different releases of this album, so i'm not ashamed to say that i downloaded a needledrop of the German LP and i'm happy with it. The rip was done by PBTHAL in 2012 for his Sussurro series, and it's perfect. Now my search is finally done, thank God. Cheers.
I have deepest purple, the very best of deep purple WB made in Japan WPCP4545 and burn sounds real good to me on it.
Is that a different mastering than the US and WG Polydor cds? I've kind of been curious about UK versions of this album (but I was thinking lp) because I have a UK 12" single of "Perfect Strangers" b/w "Son Of Alerik" which is the best I have heard this material sound.
Identical based on the DR numbers on the database US - Album details - Dynamic Range Database WG - Album details - Dynamic Range Database
Looking on Discogs just now, the Made in UK cds look the same as the US and WG cds and they may even have the same Polygram matrices, so that adds up.
Same The remaster sounds average. Much worse is the House of the Blue Light remaster. It has the LP running time. The original with is a must.
For the sake of clarity, I'd like to ask a couple of questions: 1 - Is the German LP so satisfying that after hearing it you hunted down a rip of that particular pressing, or are you basing your preference solely on the rip? 2 - In what way is this one the best there is? Can you offer any additional info as to why it is so good for you? Thank you.
Thanks to everyone for the helpful responses regarding Perfect Strangers. Which is your favorite LP version for this album?
1. I don't purchase vinyl anymore, only HD downloads and used CDs from time to time. I only heard the PBTHAL vinyl rip. Different needledrops from the exact same release can sound very different though, so that's why you should know who did the rip before downloading. Cats like PBTHAL, aksman, son-of-albion, Dr. Roberts, Kel bazar, Prof. Stoned and some others always do a great job. 2. Every mastering of this albums always sounded loud, harsh and agressive to my ears. I always had a hard time listening to it. IMO, the German LP sounds more balanced, laid back, warmer and cozy, but without losing much detail or clarity. It's not as "in your face" as the other versions. Just my two cents anyway.
I only have one vinyl pressing of this album, it is a German vinyl pressing. Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers It says "DIGITAL MASTER MIX" on the record labels, probably not a good sign... Maybe a UK pressing would be the better option?
I remember back then "digital" was a selling point, being the new technology and all that, but as usual the wording is not designed to inform.
I have the remastered CD with the bonus track "Son Of Alerik" and i downloaded the album from a free site. I am perfectly happy with both. They sound great to me, better than the LP i had back in the day.
