Rolling Stone: 500 Greatest Songs of All Time (2021)

    Its a pretty good list. A lot of great songs. To the average person who is a listener of current music the idea that Hey Ya places above Yesterday is pretty acceptable. Or Lorde above Satisfaction. The world moves on. Hits from 60 years ago lose resonance with modern audiences. To expect the hits from when you were a teenager to still be the hits 50 or 60 years later is not logical.

    The only fascinating thing about these lists is how the kids rotate the old stuff around.

    My local public radio station is doing a top 500 albums of the 70's. Voted on by its listeners.

    Lists and relative rankings are lightning rods for strong disagreement. All such lists are. We expect to see a lot of that here.

    On the other hand, if your feel triggered into a culture war rant because it includes popular music enjoyed by people who were not teenagers in your neighborhood at the same time as you, this is not the forum for that.

    With that in mind, let's continue discussion here:
