Yes, I'll probably just go for the 2-CD set as well. I have an original Canadian pressing of Exile on LP in NM condition and it sounds great to me, so unless I see an incredible deal on the new vinyl and hear amazing reports on its sound, I'll likely pass.

Incredible deals have never been a strong point from the Stones camp. :sigh:

Since it's April 1st, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the rare, not mentioned Ultra-Limited Edition of Exile On Main St which will include the entire '72 Tour-including soundchecks.

Also included: A Collector's Issue of the French Cocaine bindles they used in the studio during the recording of the LP.

  9. And, 5 random copies of the regular Super Deluxe edition will contain a dimebag of junk for added authenticity - and the lucky recipient will thus run the bonus risk of being busted, just like Keef! Result!

Hey Gazza, take a look at the Rollingstones.com UK/Europe store. The lp is £17 and the 2cd is £12.

Amazon.co.uk has the 2cd listed as £12 but no vinyl listing that I can see (yet).

You know something? I'm thinking to myself right now that somebody at Universal or the Stones camp must be looking at this thread and thinking about just how cynical, obsessed and sick us Taylor Era fans are. Well gee, we don't ask for much. We just want everything. :D

    Many thanks.

Btw, apparently the 'Stones in Exile' DVD thats being issued separately on June 14th will be a mouth-watering 151 minutes long.

From Time Out Chicago, via iorr.org:

"So it’s exciting to have the chance to listen to a remastered Exile with fresh ears, even if the record has been modernized with bright 21st punch (or “loudness”). Listening to the buffed up “Shake Your Hips” side-to-side with the original (or even the prior CD remasters) seemingly doubles the volume, which will undoubtedly lead to some kvetching about the loss of the record’s ramshackle charm. I have to say I’d agree. On first impression, it comes off more like the 1999 Yellow Submarine Songtrack than the mind-blowing 2009 Beatles remasters. The sound is clean and beautiful, and it’s hard to be critical of the job done, but it’s just a matter of preference, kind of like some people prefer hearing Beggars Banquet at the improper slow speed offered for decades before a 2002 remaster."

Not going to panic yet, but this doesn't sound good. Of course, I'll buy the deluxe set anyway, to support more archival releases from Mick.

    This is rather typical.

Based on one article from a journalist we can now for 1 month, panic and predict how horrible a release this will be. And that is before we have heard a note!

We don't even know if the guy knows anything about hi-fi and loudness.
Just because he says it's 'louder' is not the same as it's compressed to death!

And what is his point in mentioning the remastered Beggars Banquet? We all know how perfect that re-release was compared to the original.

I clearly remember The Beatles Remasters threads and the rather pointless discussions about loudness and limiting. 20.000 posts with people yearning about something they didn't even knew or had heard yet.

P.S. I think the new Exile will sound as good as the new remasters and they are rather good, in my opinion.

Of course it will sound like the others. Who ever doubted that?

Unfortunately, they are also rather loud and limited, and pale in comparison to last year's Beatle remasters.

Thankfully, all the material on the bonus disc will be newly remixed, thus sounding better than the primary disc...

The Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the World will lend support to independent music stores next week: The Rolling Stones are releasing a limited edition 7” single featuring a previously unreleased track from the upcoming Exile on Main St. reissue on Record Store Day, April 17th. “Plundered My Soul,” the first single to be featured off the Exile reissue, will be backed by the remastered album track “All Down the Line” on the single, which will be individually numbered for avid Stones collectors. A week later, “Plundered My Soul” will hit radio stations across the nation, leading up to the Exile reissue release on May 18th. A music video for “Plundered” is also in the works.
The secrets behind the Rolling Stones’ “Exile on Main Street” reissue.

“Plundered My Soul” is just one of 10 tracks unearthed by the Rolling Stones and producer Don Was for the Exile reissue. “Well, basically it’s the record and a few tracks we found when we were plundering the vaults,” Keith Richard told Rolling Stone. “Listening back to everything we said, ‘Well, this would be an interesting addition.’” Other rediscovered highlights include the horn-fueled “Pass the Wine,” the instrumental “Aladdin’s Story” and an early version of “Tumbling Dice” called “Good Time Women.” The Exile reissue will also feature the original album completely digitally remastered.
