Oldham compiled them. Besides the issue of tracks being released first in one country or another, there was also the reuse of covers, both front and back.

OK. Thanks for the correction. I thought it was all Olympic Studios in London.

It’s unclear. But various sources also indicate RCA and Pye.

I always assumed that at least the bulk of the Buttons basic tracks were recorded at RCA in Aug. '66. I think they did some work at IBC as well (namely, to get the "Mother" single finished) before convening at Olympic that fall to finish the album proper.

Wasn’t Brian Wilson at the session where they recorded “My Obsession”? There’s a video out there of him raving about it.

I remember reading Brian's recollection of it in an autobiography

    Yes. RCA.

At least Olympic, IBC and Pye studios were used in Buttons AFAIK. And RCA.

Edit. Looking at a reference and maybe IBC wasn’t used for Buttons.

Didn’t know it was a favorite of Wilson’s.

Yeah, supposedly IBC was used for HYSYMB and Got Live, but possibly not Buttons.

Not sure how much Brian Wilson recorded at RCA, but he may have just been there for a social visit.

In the video clip, he claims he was invited. RCA wasn't one of his normal "haunts" back in those days. (Mostly Gold Star, Western and Columbia).

Makes sense he would like that album so much - some of those songs wouldn't have sounded out of place on Smiley Smile.

Interesting. I love the Smiley Smile album and Between the Buttons but never apart from them coming from a similar period in time thought of that. Re Buttons there is a USA stereo and mono and a UK stereo and mono. Both the stereos are in the 2002 sacd/hybrid series. The UK mono is in the mono box. I think you have to make your own USA mono- is that correct?

The original US mono was a fold down so yes.

Being that it’s 2019 and the announcement for individual releases was supposed to come down two years ago, I figured I’d email ABKCO and inquire about it. No response after about nine days. I didn’t expect much but figured I’d give it a try.

With the TSMR mono being included in the 50th anniversary set, it looks like Aftermath and BTB will unfortunately be box only forever. I’m not sure the pull of Stray Cats is enough to get the whole thing when all I want are those two albums. Still considering it though...

I like the mono box and think despite a few errors it is an ok package. It may go out of print if it has not already done so and become more expensive or second hand only. It might get cheaper again as folk shuffle off upstairs. It does seem increasingly unlikely the albums will see an individual release as a cd or vinyl record.
The 7 inch SHM box set from Japan is lovely with slightly more accurate colours for the No2 album but that set too is not available as individual cds. Maybe someday.

Somebody know if "Satanic.." is a dedicated Mono or fold downs?

Dedicated mono, and a great one it is.

Dedicated in the mono box and original US pressings, dedicated on the first UK cut, fold-down on subsequent UK cuts.
