I'll argue with anybody that Rough Justice is one of their best singles.

I suspect this might just be Mick needing to do publicity to hype ticket sales, but not ready to announce the record yet, so you get a bunch of noncommittal "I'm always writing"-type quotes.

But hey, when it comes to new music from these guys I'm friggin' Mr. Brightside.

It wouldn't be a Stones album without Keith Richards and there is no way in Hell that he would allow an album without his input to be released as "The Rolling Stones."
Maybe he just doesn't do social media.

Well, they have been working on it at least since Blue & Lonesome. It appears the inspiration isn't exactly striking them but I'm hoping they pull it off. Personally I'm in no rush, I just want them to get 10-12 good songs together, hopefully great songs. As a fan I'm not anticipating this huge comeback or anything but, if anything, Crosseyed Heart showed that Keith still has some of that old magic.

Word from insiders on Stones boards is now to expect 2-3 new songs at most, released before the tour start. Rats.

This may or may not be true but Keith was asked about when the new record would be out he said maybe next year and they have been talking about it since before B&L. The elephant in the room seems to be they're having difficulty getting songs together.

I expect it'll be released the same day as Jimmy Page's solo album.

I agree that Crosseyed Heart has some amazing moments, but I kind of get the impression that it represented Keith clearing out his vaults more than a late burst of inspiration. Maybe he has even more unreleased material that he could give to the Stones, I don’t know. If Mick and the Stones passed on songs such as Robbed Blind, they are crazy.

I don't think Crosseyed Heart would exist in any form if not for Steve Jordan. Sounds like he willed it into existence.

Weeell it seems the guys will be back in the studio soon,
no link, but Keith revealed little else.

Because of the length of time they're taking with this one,
consider it the very LAST LP of new music, ever.

Copious vault material remains, of course.

(sigh) I guess...hope springing eternal and all. It's bizarre -- I adore Keith's solo stuff and Mick totally brings the magic when he's reworking old Stones outtakes, but they just can't do good new work together.

Two or three songs? That means that they will be packaged with.....yet another "Greatest Hits" album featuring the same set of songs as every other Stones"Greatest Hits" album.

Let's face it.They just don't have the inclination, desire, time or whatever for a sustained project of 10 songs. Blue and Lonesome happened because it's blues covers. Thy can't go that route again. And I can't see them doing , say country covers.

So it's greatest hits and live album souvenirs until the end.

Where is your source for this claim?
Or are you just assuming it is that way?

I guess I'm just making an assumption--admittedly not a wise thing at all times--based on the poster I quoted who said the "word from insiders" is not to expect more than 2 or 3 songs. Assuming this is true, how else would they come out except on a "greatest hits" or "best of" collection--as an incentive for dedicated fans to shell out more money for what they already have. This is their MO.

But again, I could be reading to much into what little info is out there. Or the info could be wrong.
    Or my assumptions.

Then maybe Jordan should take the helm for a Stones project and not that hack Don Was.....

Anything said as "certain" is blowing smoke. We don't know.
Seems like they've got a number of tunes they wanna dust off
so I think it's more than a single. They've done the collection
    thing to death.

Country? Oh HELL yeah! Plenty of uptempo country tunes
they could do well if they don't write one themselves.

    Ain't holdin' my breath either.

Not many details but this article in Rolling Stone suggests that momentum on the rumored new album might be picking up a little..

If a song or two are ready, then they are probably releasing them as teasers for the new album, just as they have done dozens of times in the past. There are multiple songs up in the air right now and they have been specifically working on that album for nearly 4 years.
There is nothing pointing at them dropping the album and releasing another compilation. In fact, all members are mentioning in interviews that the plan ahead are a new album. I don’t buy the theory that they are giving up on it. The long time they are allowing themselves this time, instead tells me that they know they have to come up with the goods and that it’s probably the last album and they want to go out on a high note. Maybe inspiration are lacking, but kudos to them for not just releasing a half-baked effort. I can wait if the results turns out to have been worthwhile.
