That man represents an awful lot of great music that I listen to often. Thank you, sir.

Now the really tough questions....what's going to become of the studio and the equipment?

A LOT of very important and influential people in music have died this year. Almost staggering. On the other hand, it forces an appreciation of their life's work by many who may not have been all that familiar with them.

Curious what his thoughts were on his legacy as dictated in his will. EC should be a museum/national monument. It is one of the most culturally /artistically significant epicenters that still exists. A true power spot.

What a legacy RVG has left. His story should be told in film.

That would be great....would be a good working museum along the lines of Memphis Recording Service aka Sun Records!

A very sad loss in the world of audio engineering, mastering, and in jazz and classical music. Rudy Van Gelder was one of the finest engineers ever.

I dare say his assistant Maureen Sickler has probably been doing a lioness's share of the work for some time and may be able to continue on with the work in the Englewood Cliff studio.

Today's mail brought yet another LP I had really been looking forward to:

...with the name that is almost a coveted seal of approval to so many:

I may only have a humble record collection of a few hundred - not thousands - but judging by how often he was a key component in the creation of so many stellar and even landmark recordings; it would be safe to say that Mr. Van Gelder's legacy and work will undoubtedly be enjoyed and cherished by a multitude of people, for many, many more decades to come... I find that a very uplifting idea. Thank you, and goodbye, good Sir!

I just saw this over at Vinyl Engine. It's pretty amazing when you consider the shear volume of jazz greats he worked with. thanks for the music Rudy!:righton:

Rudy made his mark on the world, that's for sure, and he lived to a ripe, old age. Nicely done!
