The point is to bring it to the attention of the forum. It's a great story that people should be aware of.

This is being broadcast tonight at 10pm on PBS. Check your local listings.

I had forgotten that Jimi was part Cherokee.

Just read, a bit belatedly, a great story on Link Wray in the Oxford American's annual Southern music issue. (Link is featured in the documentary above.)

    Recommended highly!

While associated with Washington, D.C., Link and his family actually grew up in North Carolina. Much more to his career than just "Rumble."

I almost skipped this thread, because I assumed it was about:
    Link Wray
    The Cleveland Indians
    Paul Revere of “the Raiders”
...then I gave in, to my curiosity...

Why would the Cleveland Indians be in the Music forum?

I asked my “just-woke-up-7am-brain” that very question, but it’s still snoozing...

I recommend this documentary. It's well worth watching. It was interesting to hear how Native American music influenced American popular music and to see and hear musicians that I was just vaguely aware of, or not at all aware of.

No mention of Redbone or the Vegases? Come and get your big mistake.

I'm sure Redbone was in the documentary when I saw it last year?

I was referring to the trailer: glad to hear they’re in the doc proper.

Does the documentary mention the great Blackfoot battle? Apparently, J.D. Blackfoot didn't like Rickey Medlocke and company recording as Blackfoot due to the confusion it might cause.

Well and truly in it from what I remember. There was another thread up yesterday about this wonderful doco. Redbone was one of the many great bands and individuals covered, whom I learnt about. I always remember in the past reading about Hendrix. One thing I remember reading was that he spent time when he was young visiting and staying on a Reservation with his extended family, I thought that was really special.

An excellent documentary. If you can catch it tonight I highly recommend it. Nice bits on Jesse Ed Davis are included.

I think Robbie Robertson had a similar experience growing up.

The film has Rickey Medlocke in it so it covers Blackfoot. Not sure if it mentions the controversy.
