What do you base your comments?
I have seen SACD discs recordings on the rise. Classical, Jazz and some Classic Rock. You apparently are not exposing yourself to other sources of music.

If I were involved with SACD creation: CSN&Y - 4 Way Street; Procol Harum Live: In Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (1972); for starters

    Huh?

My point was/is that if the major hardware manufacturers cease to support SACD going forward, the format will die, i.e., Betamax.

FWIW, most of my SACD purchases in the last 2 year's have been classical and jazz, ordered from Japan...so I'm confident my musical tastes are sufficiently broad.

Sony was the inventor of SACD but it has quit supporting the format, no different from Microsoft decided to stop supporting the Windows phone at the end of this year ...

Sony effectively killed its support of SACD almost 15 years ago, when it launched DualDisc.

SACD was supposed to be the weapon against music piracy ...

    Are you sure that's true?

Sony still operate 2 out of the 3 SACD pressing facilities in the world. It is still releasing both new SACD hardware and software. I agree that Sony should've done a much better job of promoting the format, but it's still releasing its music thru audiophile labels such as MoFi and Analogue Productions.

Almost everyone moved to first, downloads, then streaming.

I read an article to this effect a while back where it lamented about the demise of SACD ...

Sony last released a SACD player many years ago.

If you are talking about a dedicated CD/SACD player from Sony, then that's true. Unlike the likes of Yamaha, Onkyo, or even Pioneer, Sony pretty much gave up on its ES line. I can still remember Sony's high-end Qualia 007 line from about 15 years ago.

However, it has announced the new X1100ES universal player to be released soon....

True on dedicated CD/SACD players but Sony is still supporting SACD players with their recent universal players.
Yes quite awhile ago. I can't recall when or which player was Sony's last dedicated CD/SACD player but it has been awhile.

Yes, I believe so. Even in its domestic Japanese market.

There are still top-of-the-line dedicated CD/SACD players from the likes of Denon....

    Pioneer PD-70AE....

Not to mention Yamaha, Arcam, Esoteric, Luxman, Accuphase, etc. all continues to manufacture dedicated CD/SACD players. Even Technics is joining the bandwagon.

It's just that most of them aren't available in the US.

This unit interests me for its flexibility. Does it unit decode/output DSD internally, or must you also have a receiver to decode?

I believe if a player outputs DSD via HDMI the AVR/prepro has to be able to decode DSD. If not it would be converted to PCM, depending on the AVR/prepro.

Though I have hundreds of SACD's, I have no DVD-Audio and that is intentional. Redbook and SACD are enough formats for me ...

I wonder how close the 2500 is to the 1600. Anyone compare them?

They use the same DAC (PCM 1795) and have the same dynamic range.

I would think a higher priced 2500 should have better mechanism ...

I have quite a few DVD-As. A lot of great music in both stereo and surround. That's the beauty of a universal player. You don't have to discriminate against any formats ;).
I would agree with that. The XA5400 is an excellent player.

I pretty much listen only to classical music but never ran into any classical title that only offered DVD-Audio and not SACD ...
