yeah, I was just waiting for it to be in stock for free shipping (but yeah, I know there are ways around that at AS, but since it was $60 knew I could just get it by itself and be done with it) - now we need a repress of Peace Treaty, and SOON!
Order still listed as "In Progress" from Acoustic Sounds. Will be interesting to see how much longer it takes.
They seem a bit buried. I had a preorder with InGroove and got mine on Sunday. They've still got stock if anyone is on the fence. Their order fulfillment is very fast in my experience.
Anybody visiting gay Paris - looks like Fred is branching into retail. Can't make the instagram link work, but the address is: Sam Records Shop 22 Rue Taylor Paris 75010
Acoustic Sounds is simply underwater, as I'm going on 8 days for an order to move from "in progress" to "shipped"---However, I ordered Nathan Davis from In-Groove on Wednesday and they shipped today, so I'm impressed how quick they are at the stage of the season. Even Elusive Disc is fast....but thankfully the Acoustic Sounds team had their ugly sweater holiday party today when orders go into day 9.
picked up a copy of this EmArcy original Bobby Jaspar And His All Stars – Bobby Jaspar And His All Stars (1956, Vinyl) - same as Modern Jazz Au Club Saint Germain - wonder if they would have sent a copy tape or the master from France for this? Obviously the Barclay cover art is WAY better
Tapes rarely cross the ocean anymore. Given that the previous 2014 Sam release appears to have been cut by an engineer in France (Benjamin Joubert), then I would say you can bet whatever source was already in France or a nearby location was what was used.
Back in the 50s-80s common practice was to make a copy tape and send that overseas if a cut was going to be made locally. You can see such copy tapes for sale on eBay all day long.
yep, ok - was just wondering how far back the practice went and whether they ever shipped masters overseas back in the day - would make sense that they rarely did
Any idea if the new Sam Records title is AAA? Vinyle du mois - Janvier 2022 - Donald Byrd/BobbyJaspar - Cannes 58'
Thanks to this thread, and the In Groove guy’s 100 Analogue records for 2021, I’ve just placed my first order with Sam Records: a couple of the Chet Baker, the Miles, Jazz sur Seine, and - hoping my order has been fulfilled before the designation ‘out of stock’ took hold - the Nathan Davis set. I’ll update this thread with thoughts once I’ve received the records and had chance to listen.
It’s more a question of curiousity. I whole-heartedly agree that Sam Records is awesome and also that KG does some wonderful sounding digital cuts. I’ve already purchased it. But I just like knowing sometimes what’s AAA and what’s digital and to know more about the process. If it was remastered in France but cut by KG in California, then my guess is it’s a digital transfer?
Wow. Didn't know about this release. Seems you have to be a member of the club to get it? How can I get a copy otherwise?
"Re-mastered from Master Tapes by François-E-XUAN at Studio 101. Cut by Kevin Gay at Cohearant Mastering. Plated by Quality Records Pressing and pressed by Optimal in Germany" - that is one weird / cross-Atlantic process...
