  1. Seriously though, they should try making him an offer for a featured player slot or something. I don't know if he's got much else going on right now and he almost always kills on the show.

During the period when I watched the show religiously -- from the late '80s to the mid-'90s -- Baldwin was hands down the funniest host the show had. If he was hosting, you were going to laugh your butt off. (And I'm not a big Baldwin fan.)

Wikipedia says he's hosted the most times, btw -- 16. Steve Martin has 15 and John Goodman 13.

I was wondering about that. I've never seen the show, so it was completely meaningless to me, but the audience seemed to dig it. I missed a few parts. What was between the second musical performance (that band seemed like something from a high school talent show) and the WWII sketch where the dying soldier wanted his plug disposed of?

It wasn't bleeped. SNL can technically say almost anything because it's in the watershed period. They just choose not to.

I'm in agreement. . . a definite dip in quality after last week.

  7. Not a terrible episode, but certainly a tad meh.

Also: I didn't like 21 Pilots going in and nothing I heard changed my mind, but points to the drummer for displaying some showmanship.

The best bit was the "Day Off with Kelly Anne Conway", I thought.

I liked the opening skit and Weekend Update. Seemed like all the skits were Hamilton/rap related. I expected some of that, but some variety would have helped a lot.

Hmm, haven't watched past couple seasons but I might tune in for Hanks. "Hey, it's Tony Randall!"

Please stop putting Jimmy Fallon on.
It's bad enough he ruined the Tonight show let's not bring him back on SNL.

Considering he's winning the late night wars I don't see "less Jimmy" anytime soon.

I think they thought the SNL vets would pump viewing numbers like last week. I just don't think Fallon is SNL funny anymore.

They really need to change the design of the set they use during the opening monologue. How many years have they had that set now? It's just looking old and tired.

That's Jimmy. And while I enjoyed a fair amount of his work on SNL and I like his late night show, his inability to play a character without breaking is pretty annoying. Not that the bit he and Fey were doing was funny anyway.

My friend said it's "inconic" and I couldn't believe it. This set really needs to change. Really.

I hate agreeing with you, but after the premiere I had too high of hopes I guess. Was pretty much as you stated, at least for me. Fingers crossed for next week.

I thought Lin absolutely nailed the monologue. I know the rap thing is in his wheelhouse, but that's a ton to remember (despite the cue cards) and thought it pulled it off brilliantly.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks this. The thing I like about the old SNL's is that every few years they'd change things up and you'd get a new look.

I will be the third to agree with this. The opening with Baldwin and the monologue was good but after that, not so much. Last weeks show was much better. Since I haven't bailed yet, I doubt I ever will, but a tivo/dvr is a must with all the commercials and crappy bands.

I can't imagine the cue card guy walking backwards and changing the cards as fast as Lin rapped the monologue.

The main set has been around since 2003, and the production designer wants to change it but Lorne Michaels has yet to give him the go-ahead.
