The first bit of news:
SNL to Return for Season 47 on October 2
its news but just a little
What's the deal with SNL / Lorne Michaels' end game? Lorne is going to be 77 years old in November. Is there any word on whether SNL is expected to endure beyond his reign?
I'm guessing they are "being pretty darn coy" because they don't yet know the full cast or the hosts.
Three weeks is an enternity in the world of SNL.
There are rumors some cast members might be leaving though:
'SNL' Sets Season 47 Premiere — Which Cast Members Might Not Return?
I'd be shocked if some cast members weren't leaving. I mean like half the cast has been there for over 5 years which used to be a pretty uncommon occurrence.
I'm sure we'll be finding out in a couple of weeks.
Let me be the first: The show/writing/cast is worse than ever, it should’ve been cancelled 10/25/35 years ago, they should change the name to Saturday Night Dead, etc.
And I've never heard of the music guests. You forgot that one, lol
Also...the show hasn't been GOOD since I was 15 years old.
Sorry, there was Sat. Night Dead on KYW Philadelphia immediately after Sat. Night Live during the '80s. B Horror flicks with humor, this time from a woman vampire,Stella, the Man-eater From Manayunk.
With only two weeks left till broadcast I’m thinking that last year’s cast minus maybe one will return. This way, they can build tension and interest to bump the ratings. Likewise if they hire new cast members now there isn’t enough time to promote them. Simply a hunch.
There are several Seniors I don't want to see go but if space isn't opened up for the Freshmen and Sophomores to grab the baton we will never get the best out of them.
‘SNL’s Lorne Michaels On Norm MacDonald; Season 47 Cast Rumors
As noted in this article (about last night's Emmys) Cecily Strong still doesn't know for sure if she's coming back or not. Less than two weeks until the premiere, and they apparently have not yet finalized the cast.
She's gotten to be a stronger performer over the last couple of seasons (her Judge Jeanine is a laugh riot), but I honestly think it is time for her, Katie Mac and Lil Baby Aidy to move on.
I wouldn't like a cast with more than 20 members. I feel like somebody's got to go
Agreed. I like her work, but the show isn't (or shouldn't be) built for people to hang around for like 8 or 10 years. That's too long. It was one thing when it was just Keenan, but now half the cast is at the 7+ seasons mark. And since they've continued adding new people, it's just too unwieldy.
What's so wrong about devoting 10 minutes of airtime to the opening credits?

Especially since Keenan and Aidy have other TV gigs. Give some other folks a place at the table.
Aidy doesn’t, her show was cancelled (or does she have something else?)
'SNL' Announces Next Month’s Musical Guests: Kacey Musgraves, Halsey, Young Thug, & Brandi Carlile
And for those just reading the headline, the hosts are Owen Wilson, Kim Kardashian West, Rami Malek, and Jason Sudeikis.
Separate names with a comma.
