One thing I like about George Romero's work, especially Dawn of the Dead, is that it could be scary and cerebral at the same time.
Of all the horror movies I've seen, the one scene that scared me the most and has stayed with me my entire life is from Caltiki, The Immortal Monster. I saw it when I was maybe 7 years old on the Moona Lisa show in San Diego. It's the part of the movie where a scuba diver goes down to search for treasure but encounters the blob-ish monster instead. His buddies pull him up using the safety rope, but it's too late. When the lifeless body appears at the surface, they pull off the scuba mask to reveal his horrible, flesh-less, skeleton-ized face. Talk about being scarred for life!
I've just sat through the "Evil Dead" trilogy!... I hadn't watched "Army Of Darkness" since it came out, and MAN.... It's safe to say Peter Jackson was watching this carefully!
interesting...which is the best Blu-ray of AOD? I have the the foreign Directs Cut with all perfect footage from years ago on DVD.
Night Of The Living Dead in a theater in 1969. Bits of The Haunting. Legend Of Hell House is pretty good. Just the house at midnight is chilly.
For a single jump scare, it is difficult to find one that holds up as much as the one in the original 1959 House on Haunted Hill. The Caltiki one from the same year is good too.
They just started "Contagion" on the Paramount Network! This may be the first time it's been shown on TV since the pandemic!
The Changling (1980, with George C. Scott) comes to mind. More psychological terror. The original Psycho (if only for Anthony Perkins performance) and the soundtrack!
The Descent : Part 2 (2009) Is also pretty good. Neil Marshall( Game Of Thrones ) not ruling out a Descent 3.
Martyrs (2008) - heard about this French movie some years ago, but only got around to watching it recently. Good movie, the ending especially striking.
Good movie! I was looking for an off-beat movie to watch one night and stumbled on this. Recommended.
