Yes,not much dialogue, but lots of exposure That reminds me i haven't watched Lifeforce in a long time,i need to watch it again soon. It's one wild movie!
You are way old - I'm 54. That is what I'm talking about - don't get scared any more - but sure as a kid - heck yeah. Hell House scared the crap out of me - that shower scene with the cat.
Those recent sleep paralysis horror films scare me. I can't think of the titles and most of them aren't what I would call great horror movies. But I suffer from occasional sleep paralysis myself and I've seen/experienced some strange stuff. I've never seen a sleep demon or whatever it's called, but I've had the sense that something else was in the room and I can't move or speak for several minutes to stop it. It sounds pretty ridiculous writing about it in the cold light of day and I never really talk about it, but it can be very frightening. It goes well beyond a nightmare and I don't think it's quite a night terror either. So yeah, I've learned to avoid those movies because they're too scary for me!
I still love that movie, still fun late at night.Like i said earlier,it doesn't scare me now but i can sure see why it did when i was 12..lol It's still 10 times better than the remake of it from a few years ago.
Night of the Living Dead (1968 original and 1990 remake are both great) Dawn of the Dead (1978 is best 2004 is OK) Day of the Dead The Omen The Fog Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956 and 1978 versions) Halloween Zombie Horror Hotel aka City of the Dead The Amityville Horror 28 Days Later 28 Weeks Later Poltergeist The Beyond (very atmospheric and scary, not much of a plot, though) Pet Sematary Salem's Lot (technically a mini series) Nosferatu (1922 and 1979 versions) Shock Waves The Thing (1982) The Evil Dead Let Sleeping Corpses Lie Re-Animator Black Sunday Jaws The Haunted Palace The Last Man On Earth Carnival of Souls Return of the Living Dead All I can think of off the top of my head.
As a kid, those old Dracula, Frankenstein (Boris's versions) and The Mummy movies scared the crap out of me. Also, just about any Vincent Price movie did too. In particular, I saw the original House of Wax 3D movie at the theatre during a special showing when I was a kid, many years after it was originally released in 1953. But seeing The Exorcist for the first time on TV was scary, especially since it was on a night my parents went out and left my brother and me alone. We were just old enough not to have a babysitter anymore and it might have been the first time. The Omen scared me too when I was a kid. Original Salem's Lot scared me also the first time. Carrie was scary too the first time. Of course, none of those movies do now and I don't get even remotely scared as an adult. Though some of them do use those jump scare tactics that make you flinch and almost stop your heart. Some "recent" scary movies that I thought were good, suspenseful thrillers weren't really scary, but still worth the watch. The Conjuring comes to mind. As for Cabin In the Woods, I hated that movie. I thought it was just plain silly. Though, I did enjoy Drag Me To Hell. The theatrical remake of IT Part 1 was great and I thought it blew away the original TV version. Part 2 was weaker but still much better than the original Made For TV version.
I don't know why, but every time I think of "Life-force", my mind goes right to "Event Horizon"! Maybe they came out around the same time?... All I know is; one of the many random 'movie-references' the wife and I say to each other is, "DO YOU SEE, CAPT. MILLER?!?!"
I pretty much exclusively watch horror films. It's (by far) my favorite genre. I can be grossed out, but nothing really scares me.
