A show that definitely found its rhythm after a few episodes, especially as the Roses become part of the community versus trying to escape it.

Hello, big fan of the show. I am wondering if anyone can id the jazz that’s always playing in the background at Rose Apothecary?? I really like it but I don’t know enough about jazz to know who it is. Thanks!

I watched a recent episode and there were a couple of scenes at the apothecary. But the music was too subdued for me to identify the music. Also, the dialogue didn't help. In one instance, the music sounded like it might be Miles Davis or a similar subdued trumpet. What was it about the music that you liked? If you could point to a particular show, I will see if I still have it on my DVR.

Thanks for the response. I reviewed a few episodes on OnDemand and the second most recent episode titled Baby Sprinkle seems to have a decent clip without too much talking at the start of the episode.

What I think I like about the jazz is that it’s a bit slower in tempo and there seems to be less going on (fewer instruments maybe). I currently have a few Miles Davis albums and a couple Thelonius Monk and a few modern albums from the West Coast Get Down guys, which I like (except for Black Beauty, can’t get into that).

I listened to that portion of the episode again, and I don't recognize the piece or the performer. It doesn't sound like Miles Davis, though I think his work for the Prestige label would come the closest. It reminds me a little of Chet Baker:

Here's Miles doing the same tune:

I'm not that knowledgeable of modern trumpet players. Anyone else?

Maybe it's because I'm older, but I'm partial to Eugene's (real life) daughter . . . the one who plays the waitress.

    Are you sure you're older? I'm 47.

Didn't know Eugene had two children on the show. Cool!

Yes. But I just looked them up and Emily Hampshire is four years older than Sarah Levy! Forget what I said about the age thing.

I guess Emily has aged better. Yet another feather in her cap.

Absolutely. And this way, we wouldn't have to share.

Sort of like a Ginger vs Mary Ann thing, though I'd fall in the Mary Ann camp with that one.

I'm surprised no one wants to claim Annie Murphy.

Season 5 will start in January 2019, though there’s some sort of Christmas special in December 2018.

I really would like to like this show. I think Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara and Chris Elliott are some of the funniest people ever. But it's not for me unfortunately. I'd like those 3 to star in something else together that maybe I'd like!

While I adored much off the series up until the current season, I thought the holiday special was downright dreadful and the first few episodes so far this season seem at least a step below prior seasons.

What would fans say is the best season? I’d like to try it again (again).

I really liked the 1st season. I watched a couple episodes of Season 2 but it didn't seem quite as good and it kind of lost me.

It’s more of a character-driven show - as opposed to a plot-driven show - and by that I mean you either like the characters and want to see what they do each week or you don’t and you don’t. In that respect, it reminds me of SCTV. I watch an isolated SCTV show with my wife and I can tell she doesn’t get the appeal of Johnny LaRue or Bobby Bittman or Guy Caballero. I do, but only because I’ve been exposed to the characters and know their history, quirks, etc.

These absurd characters keep me coming back for more. The silly situations and dry, well written well delivered dialog is a hoot. Long live the Schitt !
