Selling on Ebay?

  1. When you have listing on your screen, click "PrtSc" or "Print Screen" button on keyboard. Then control "C" to copy. And control "V" to paste. Not sure about uploading graphics into forum, but save it as a gif or jpg, and I expect the instructions are around.
If you need to do this on a regular basis, I can recommend software called Snaggit.

At 2:43 eastern time, I get the same thing:

    Invalid Item
This listing (4722342932) has been removed by eBay or is no longer available. Please make sure that you've entered the item number correctly.

If you relisted the item, chances are it's got a different number than the original link.

Well...I see what you mean, and I have insulted a good number of people AND their mothers myself. Nothing is more ugly to see than a veteran sniper (like myself) being outsniped by someone else...the self-righteous indignation alone can be truly overwhelming. ;)

But to me bidding is what makes eBay fun. Sometimes people go crazy and pay way more than they should - and the seller gets lucky and as a potential buyer you curse the idiots paying that kind of money for driving the prices up for everyone. Sometimes though you get a really good deal - congrats buyer!

It's fun and there's that element of surpise and excitement. Kind of boring to go back to just BUYING something, heck ANYONE can do THAT... :)

About the turkeys who misrepresent items: I get snookered occasionally but I find the more I shop eBay I'm getting pretty savvy. You begin to spot red flag hedging language, and you can often read between the lines on even "positive" feedback other buyers have left. I just always, pretty much every time, ask the seller a question about the grading of the item and always ask about play grading. If they get defensive or don't answer or won't play grade (nonsealed) vinyl, I don't bid. It's amazing how just doing this, I'd say at least 30% of the time people end up revising DOWN their vinyl grading (e.g. I e-mail and ask if the item play grades as NM and they say "it's in great shape, but I'd like to revise my rating to EX"). It's a shame you have to do this, but seems like worth it in the long run. I think the vast majority of people are fundamentally honest when you establish a 1:1 communication. They are less inclined to over-grade when you ask personally than when they post "anonymously" for everyone and they don't feel that they are screwing anyone in particular. I also have begun to stockpile a list of what seem like really honest sellers who, if anything, err on the side of UNDER grading (an eBay buyer's dream).

There's something to what you say, Tony, even if I don't like to admit it to myself.

There's an auction of dishes right now that I will probably end up paying as much for as an alternate bunch I would actually get more use from that are just "for sale" somewhere else. But I want the chance of getting a bargain, in this case, under the $12-15 per dish I will pay at the regular "for sale" site. And of course, there's no way to know until I bid at the end.

Which will I be on Monday night: :realmad: or :D ? Stay tuned.

I don't think I would be so upset, but eBay and PayPal refused to do anything, because each individual sale was under $25. Each LP had its own auction, but the seller had hundreds of them. I spent over $25 altogether, but not in any single auction, nor even in a single PayPal transaction.

Why don't you use something like bidnapper. This will save you having to remember to snipe and allows you to be away from the computer and set a maximum price that will avoid you getting into a bidding war. PM me if you want some more info. I also find that a lot of buyers will quote you a fair buy it now price if you ask nicely enough.

VERY nice, Jeffrey. You have touched on all the key points of a DCC Gold disc.

It was refreshing to read your comment on excessive S&H charges.

You might want to add catalog number GZS-1104.
Some buyers like that. Looks good though.
    Good Luck.

    Hi Aaron,

    That's a great idea..... THANKS!

Maybe i should wait awhile and see how many other additions are suggested so that i don't add too many different posts to the description (i just added one). It should be obvious that a rookie is in the house. :)

    Take care,
    Jeffrey

    No problem,
Many people like song titles also. Saves them the time figuring if the song they are looking for is on the album. They might not take the time to come back if they have to look elsewhere.

Jeffrey. As a word of caution. Be wary of sending an expensive item like this by non-trackable methods. You leave it up to the buyer in your ad. Be wary of a buyer who wants to ship a $200 item via non-trackable means as there is an increasing possiblity these days that he will use paypal to scam you by making a buyer complaint stating that he has not received the item. Unless you can then prove to paypal that you have used a trackable postage method the buyer will keep your cd and get his money back. This is happening increasingly on International transactions as most people just don't bother with trackable means as they are too expensive. It is not in paypal's interest to do anything much about this, as otherwise everybody would have to insist on trackable postage methods and sales would be affected due to the expense.

    Hi Mambo,

THANKS.... that's very good advice! If possible, i will pay for tracking (if the buyer does not) on my own, so that i will have proof of delivery. I sure do hope i get a quality buyer..... i would hate for this beauty to go to anyone who isn't.

    Take care,
    Jeffrey

Late chime in to say I agree with Mambo's comments about trackability.

I get some flack from potential buyers on my listings for electronics because I insist on sending them UPS. It's part my convenience (there's a store literally down the street and they do a great job of packing for me - I'd rather pay them to do it than futz around with it myself) and partly that I want ease of trackability. And I've always had good success with UPS. The deal is that shipping is a bit more expensive this way, but what good is cheap shipping if your item never arrives or shows up in pieces?

I also friggin' hate the US Postal Service. Don't get me started...just having to wait in line alone sets me off. Enough said.

Ahem...regaining composure: anyway, if you have a saleable item, it will sell regardless of shipping issues. I just make sure to e-mail people a reply to any inquiries/concerns about shipping costs that emphasizes I'm not trying to make extra money on shipping and handling (and also reassure them that if I overestimate shipping costs and it costs me less than I thought I'll send them renumeration for the difference).

Congratulations, Jeffrey. :righton: I love it when someone pays me stupid money on eBay. I don't like to spend it, but I sure like to get it. Some kind of dichotomy in there, I just know it. :shh:

    Hi,

THANKS everybody for all the help, support, and congrats! At these prices, i'm selling NOT buying! :)

Next EBay selling question...... How does one calculate international postage for one sealed CD to Japan? Any, and all suggestions, would be most appreciated.

    Take care,
    Jeffrey

    Hi Dave,

My auction proved a point that you've expressed before..... it's in the best interest of the seller to permit international bidding. Now, i just have to figure out how to do it! :)

    Take care,
    Jeffrey
