Surprised this doesn't have its own thread yet. I was very skeptical of this at first and totally dismissive, but the trailers actually look good:

I'm in - looks like it'll be a fun movie. As I've read elsewhere, has some Tick influence and kind of like Big in a way too.

Copyrights be damned. THIS is Captain Marvel, the one and only "Big Red Cheese". Just got the movie serial a few weeks ago, and while I generally dislike the old serials this was pretty good.

Character's first appearance in the comics as Captain Marvel:

Later lampooned as ripping off Action Comics 1. Then relaunched in '73 as Shazam - with Superman's cooperation of course:

There better be a 1973 Dodge Open Road motorhome in it. That's all I'm sayin.

I'd be willing to bet this thing makes a cameo

The beer buying scene in the trailer caught my eye. Reminds me of my first beer ordering experience (I was 16).

Early reports are that, surprising as it may seem, that this film is very good and the best 'current' DCEU film yet, better even than Wonderwoman.

They are letting critics see it a month before, which is always a sign that they know they have something good on their hands. If a film is bad they usually only allow critics to see it a few days before release, so the opening weekend isn't ruined by bad reviews and buzz.

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was about that movie "Shazaam" from the '90s where Sinbad plays a genie.

Big fan of Captain Marvel, likely due to the 70s TV series (Which is up on the DC streaming service in HD). I hope they at least mention the name “Captain Marvel” at some point in the movie.

I'm hoping for cameos by both Sinbad and Shaq in genie costumes.

Looks like a heck of a lot of fun! As noted above, it’s been screened for critics a month in advance, and the reaction has been very positive. I’m in!

Maybe the villain will be a worm with a radio hanging around his "neck"?

I liked the '70s comics 'back in tha day', but dunno if I would ever pay to see this. It'd take the evil Mr. Mind to be in it a lot... and this looks like it's all depending on the kid in an adult body aspect for humor.

If they don't have it, maybe drop by Walter White's house, and see if he's still got his old key..?

"Kid stuff" or not, Zachary Levi was an excellent casting. Just enough eyebrows to look right, not "Peter Gallagher" enough to look creepy.

Who could possibly hate Joanna Cameron as Isis?
