Going to the Lake District, arriving to London looks 18 June until 1 July. Possible to see shows London, Manchester, maybe Edinburgh/Glasgow at a stretch, Leeds. Thinking to drive up via Liverpool and take some kind of half-day Beatles tour cuz hey why not?

What sites should I look at for tickets? Doesn't have to be big bands or the top football clubs, I've just always wanted to see a show and a game overseas. Looking at Ticketmaster I see nothing, I cannot even find Manchester though I thought I had seen overseas shows on TM before...

Like other posters have said, the football season has just ended. I would definitely recommend a trip to Liverpool and see the Beatles museum/Cavern, it’s on your way up from London to the lakes. Not sure what’s on, gig wise. I was supposed to be seeing Billy Idol/the Go-Gos on June the 21st in Leeds, but that has been moved to October.

If you only have a half day for Beatles either a taxi your (cost around £50) or the National Trust tour of John & Paul’s child home. You need to book that one in advance.

If in London, the ABBAtars show could be very interesting.

Jodrell Bank is one of my favourite places on the planet. I’ve visited countless times since I was a small child, and still get a buzz whenever I go past there on the train.

I was at the first Transmissions gig there, in July 2011.

If you are going to the Lake District it may be worth checking out music-wise what is happening in local towns/cities like Carlisle, Cockermouth, Penrith, Keswick, or Whitehaven, or tourist centres like Ambleside. There’s bound to be bands playing in various local pubs. The local tourist board e.g. Lake District or Cumbria (the local county) should have details if you get in touch with them, or look on their websites. Bear in mind that the Lake District is about 2 or 2.5 hours drive from either Manchester, Newcastle or Edinburgh. London is about a 5 hour drive, depending on where you are. (I used to work up there and drive, fly or train from London). I’m surprised nothing is showing on Ticketmaster.

The main sporting action will be Wimbledon (tennis) in SW London, which is roughly the last week of June and first week of July. It’s hugely popular and you are likely taking a gamble in trying to get in on the day. As others have said, it will be between seasons for soccer and rugby, though there is bound to be some horse racing, cricket and athletics.

Thoughts about where to stay in the Lake District?
Ticketmaster I only searched London so far. Not sure we would drive from there to large towns, it's a lot of driving, and driving back late at night. Unlikely. But local pub music could be equally cool. KISS live at Windermere or something like that.
