The Sleater-Kinney cover was an homage - I don't think it should be dismissed as having "no imagination". After "Scream" was a hit, skillions of posters imitated this image - THAT was no imagination. "Dig Me Out" was a clever nod toward an influence...

Apart from the plate number (which is obviously an hommage on the Oasis), they actually make a nice pair.
Certainly always saw the resemblance with the Doors, especially since they were label mates at the time (Love's first album, also on Elektra, also shows the band in stark pose, except full bodied and over a background.)
