Glad to post it! I always enjoy reading/sharing reviews from modern day sources for exactly the same reason. This makes me want to play the SACD this weekend while thoroughly reading this one.

It's not the "Anythng Goes" session. Different tie on Frank, and Nelson is wearing a suit and tie instead of a plaid shirt. Compare, from post #132:

    Sure enough....

In that case, any ideas about when it's from?

Could be an earlier Swingin' Lovers session. My initial impression was one of the Wee Small Hours sessions, but I can't find any other known photos from those sessions which match.

Actually, I picked this up at an estate sale for $5 a few weeks ago.....SQ was, surprisingly, not bad at all....Pretty damn close to the dry original sound to my ears. Although it was clearly sourced from digital, I imagine the source MIGHT be the MoFi CD master.....

Overall, it's a nice alternative if you can't find a Capitol original. The vinyl is 180grams , dead-quiet and dead-flat to boot!

If the Waxtime LP is from 2012, then it may have been sourced from the old MFSL CD that used the wrong tapes, but not from the 2014 MFSL CD that used correct tapes.

While I know people (including myself) like to hunt and experiment, I cannot stress enough that while the MoFi hybrid disc is available, buy one if you haven't. LPs issued by labels who cut from God knows what can be purchased later. The 2014 MoFi sounds fabulous...it's the best there's ever been of the album, and quite possibly ever will be. It's front cover even looks better than any other previous release, with artwork coming from a vintage in-house proof.

marmil It's such a long story...

I'm sure this question has been asked and answered but why did they change the cover? To hide the scars on his face?

I've always believed it was because Frank seemed less aloof looking toward, instead of away from, the couple.

Link to the 2014 MFSL CD that used the correct tapes?

It's so easy to buy the wrong one.

From now on, I don't buy a Sinatra on Capitol CD without first consulting your website, MLutthans.

Now if only someone would do the same with Reprise.

I'm just waiting for those 40 hour days to be legalized. (Translation: If only I had more time.......)

    Thanks, though!

My gut tells me this may be one of the better sounding UMe vinyl releases on par with ItWSHs and CFwM because at the time the MoFi vinyl was cancelled...the correct, original tapes had been hunted down and used the SACD. MoFi did the hardest part, by finding the correct tapes, for UMe. Now UMe just has to make sure they use those tapes. We will see.

  24. Good point but won't UMe be cutting this latest LP from a digital source as they have done with the others to date?

That was the case with some, not all. Fingers crossed. If done right, this one could be a big seller. Like ItWSHs, this could turn out to be the first time this album with pressed on vinyl for the first time, with the proper tapes in almost 60(?) years!
