I know. I just wanted to post the name because I crak up overtime I think of it...love that film. But seriously, nearly all the films mentioned are favourites. I just love this era of British Cinema. If you grew up with Aussie tv like me, these films were the ones that got played late in the evening. Many of them still do. Holy Cow was on recently. Hoffman too, which is what made me think of it actually! Port Wine as well.

Yep that's a bit of a stretch. But Charles Bronson did :)

Bronson could stretch from The Magnificent Seven to The Dirty Dozen. ;)

Basically the same film but the second one is played for laughs.

Many of the films listed have recently received great blu-ray releases in the UK courtesy of Studio Canal's Vintage Classics range.

Very effective in late 1960s/1970s movies.

Yes, forgot about `I`m Alright Jack`....a great comedy with Peter Sellers as self righteous communist trades union leader `Fred Kite`, Ian Carmichael as a bumbling upper class twit, and a brilliant Terry Thomas as the sleazy factory boss, ably assisted by Dennis Price.....throw in Irene Handl as the mum, and a gorgeous flighty rather dim Liz Frazer, and you have a stellar cast of British character actors.
Peter Sellers won a BAFTA award for his performance.

This film contains one of my favorite lines that I never get tired of quoting........
Fred Kite waiting for his tea to be served.....`IT MUST BE WONDERFUL IN RUSSIA......ALL THEM CORNFIELDS........AND BALLET IN THE EVENINGS`.

    Hardly working class.

  17. I was just thinking of this movie while reading this thread. Another movie in a similar vein is "A Private Function" from 1984 set in post-war, heavily rationed, England.

I agree about the soundtrack but it was light comedy. Darling with Julie Christie had more social commentary and grit.

I loved Kes, even got the soundtrack LP when Trunk put it out! I tend to file Kes in with the Bill Douglas films.

    Darling :
Julia Christie was semi nude in it.
Quite daring for a 1965 brit film.
