Does the BBC4 thread still exist, just searched threads with BBC4 in the title and it didn’t come up.
I thought I'd just been banned from it. Shame if the whole thread has gone. Perhaps we can start a fresh one, and not let the trolls wind us up and get it taken down. Speaking for myself as much as anyone. EG.
How can there be any trolling in a BBC Four thread? I didn't see any at all, certainly not enough to justify it being totally removed after years.
I know. There was some, and a few of us should have known better than to even acknowledge it, but...I assumed we'd simply been banned from the thread but it was still there. So much music content on BBC4, it needs a thread...free of troublemakers. EG.
How come I always miss the good stuff?! I just stumbled across this. Not sure how to watch easily. Here is the studio website blurb: Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliché | Watch — Modern Films -Bill
Classic Songwriters series continues this week with Norah Jones. Already started tonight but I expect it'll be repeated a few times. EG.
I had to get up early to watch this one - The John Wilson Orchestra presents Cole Porter in Hollywood. I always enjoy watching the John Wilson Orchestra performances at the BBC Proms each year - for those who are unaware the orchestra specialises in music from the golden age of Broadway and Hollywood musicals. Although filmed at the Royal Albert Hall this particular concert was not part of the BBC Proms.
Another new episode of "Great Songwriters"..and another of my favourites... RICKIE LEE JONES. Looking forward to this EG.
As the BBC4 thread got scrubbed for some reason (which is a real shame), this seems a good place to share this depressing news BBC Four to become archive channel as cost-cutting drive continues
BBC4 used to be the go-to channel for great music/arts/cultural programming. New and old. Sky Arts is sort-of the same, but deliberately keeps back some of the best/newest material for its Sky Docs channel, rather than give it all away on the freeview option. And Sky have all the ads. BBC content was start to finish. EG.
Flaming Lips are the latest artist to be featured in the Great Songwriters series. Certainly some interesting and less-obvious choices, which makes a change! EG.
This evening I watched the new Classic Albums documentary that focused on The Who Sell Out album. This was an enjoyable documentary that I feel could have easily been half an hour longer (blu ray release please). Although the album is a classic I often feel it is overlooked or glossed over when people talk about The Who so I welcomed this documentary. If anyone missed it, it is repeated on Sunday afternoon.
That's a shame about BBC Four, but in some ways it could be good. If it means they start showing complete shows from the archive more and digging out clips that haven't been shown since their original broadcast, their music programming could be improved. Most of it wasn't made by the BBC anyway. It's awful for the other programmes and series they made though. Yet, the expensive dross of the type shown on BBC One on Saturday evenings, Drag Race etc continue totally unaffected. I despair...
As the thread starter, if you think it's a good idea, would you be able to ask the gorts if they could add BBC Four to the thread title too? Most people watch both and the BBC Four thread has gone. Apologies if this seems cheeky!
Tales of the unexpected - I love watching them old episodes, it’s the cars from late 70’s/early 80’s I get a kick out of seeing.
There was a great documentary on Mark E Smith's band on Sky Docs the other night....or so I thought... "The Fall". I quickly set the channel up. Except it was a film about the infamous Zola Budd / Mary Decker race at the 84 Olympics! Really enjoyed it though. EG.
Sky Arts is garbage since it broadcast on freeview, it was much better when it was part of the Sky subscription.
Even better when they used to have TWO Sky Arts channels....I miss those days. But Sky can't be expected to give their best/newest content away for nothing. EG.
