While perusing Amazon, I noticed that there are listings for remastered CDs of Sly & the Family Stone's first three albums (A Whole New Thing, Life, Dance to the Music) scheduled for release on October 3. Anyone have any additional information about these?

I dont know, and I don't mean to threadcrap but man o' man it'd be nice if they released the Fillmore 68 shows that have been promised since about 2004...maybe earlier!

I don't know if these are remasters (Sony/Legacy reissued these 3 albums in the mid 90's), but Sony has been promising a complete SATFS catalogue overhaul since the Essential collection came out a few years ago...so I hope this is it. I don't think I would re-buy these 3 titles again (I hardly listen to them), but the Essential set sounds great and I'd love to hear Stand, Riot & Fresh done by Vic Anesini.

    Hmmm.

Here's the track listing of Dance to the Music from CD Universe. It appears we are getting more material that wasn't on the 95 Legacy remaster.

    1. Dance To The Music
    2. Higher
    3. I Ain't Got Nobody (For Real)
    4. Dance To The Medley: Music Is Alive / Dance In / Music Lover
    5. Ride The Rhythm
    6. Color Me True
    7. Are You Ready
    8. Don't Burn Baby
    9. I'll Never Fall In Love Again
    10. Dance To The Music - (previously unreleased)
    11. Higher
    12. Soul Clappin'
    13. We Love All
    14. I Can't Turn You Loose
    15. Never Do Your

When will we finally get a Legacy budget price remaster of Stand?

It would be fantastic if any future remasters include their mono singles mixes, which are much more funky and/or psychedelic than the stereo mixes.

Re: New Sly & the Family Stone remasters?

Life and Whole New Thing also appear to have extra tracks not on the mid-90s Legacy remasters.

Anybody pick these up? Street date is today. But CD Universe says they are "backordered." Ha! HA! Ha!!!! That's so typical of Stone releases from Legacy. Poof!! No you seem them. Now you don't. Hopefully they aren't delayed or won't be for long.

It does seem odd that they didn't include a remastered Stand! in this batch. It's still the same crappy remaster from the 80s and the 1st three lps received a sonic upgrade in the mid 90s.

They ignored "Stand" last time, too. Like I said, these puppies got "pushed".

Amazon has them listed as "usually ships in 2 to 5 weeks". :( I'm hoping these don't turn out to be vaporware.

It'd be nice if Stand! were given the same treatment, but I picked up a sealed Mastersound copy of that one on eBay not too long ago and I'm pretty happy with it.

Riot and Fresh are the ones that need a remastering. Riot especially. I'd love to see a deluxe edition thingy of that one.

I, too, would like to see them release "Live at the Fillmore." I've never actually heard it, but everyone raves about it.

Honestly, these record companies are a big pain. They don't know their audiences anymore.

The record companies haven't known thier audiences in decades. They have been behind the curve on almost every single technological advancement. Slow to move to the cd format, not to mention online content availability.

Re: New Sly & the Family Stone remasters?

Sony is an odd one. They need to learn to ***** or get off the pot. They are always publicizing releases and release dates that disappear into thin air.

They gave the Sly Fillmore a 2003 release date. Now these Sly Remasters are scheduled for Oct. 3 with solid track listing including unissued bonus tracks, then they push the release to 2007.

Why don't they just determine the release date and stick with it?

Re: New Sly & the Family Stone remasters?

Interesting. It doesn't appear that the domestic 80s-era cd of Stand is available through CD Universe or Amazon.com anymore.

Could be a good sign that a remastered mid-price Legacy disc of Stand is on its way...

What date in 2007 did Sony reschedule the Sly remasters for?

Does anybody have any word on the vinyl re-issue of 'Fresh" or is that in the same fate as the CD re-issues?

Whenever these are released, it can't be soon enough. And I hope Vic Anesini does the mastering on them.

I posted a prior thread on this a month or so ago. The release date is in March, as I recall.

Could a nice Gort perhaps post a link to the prior thread herein? Thanks.

CBS/Sony is ridiculous. When they originally released Fresh, they pulled the wrong master of the entire album! I bought it and was flabbergasted. I have it hidden away somewhere.

Looking really closely at the picture and you can barely see some of the text on the label. It looks like this is just a sampler for the Essential Sly & the Family Stone 2 disc set from a couple of years back.
