I love this song! It reached #5 on the R&B charts in 1987.

I have one of her LP's and I really like it a lot. She has a strong voice and had such a cool, hip look......she should have been bigger!

    Don Henley-Boys of Summer/A Month of Sunday's
Co-written and produced by Mike Campbell.
This reached #5 USA and #12 UK in 1984. I used to be ambivalent towards this tune but I have really come to like it in recent years. Henley's lyrics set a perfect scene of adolescent yearning and loss and the temporary earth shattering effect this can have on a young man. To be the local boy who takes the summer fling for a real romance can be hard. "I should just let them go but....."

Don Henley- All She Wants to do Is Dance/Building the Perfect Beast
This slice of 80's electronic rock hit #9 in the USA in 1985. Danny Kortchmar wrote and produced this pop-rock gem. Having both Party Smyth and Martha Davis singing backgrounds didn't hurt! Cool riff....very neutered but still cool. The whole song sounds overly synthesized but man it works.

Great song. I'm just sick of hearing it.

I was really shocked when Don Henley went electronic synth in his solo career. I consider him only a mediocre singer (Glen Frey has a much better voice), but a very talented songwriter. His singles are so different from what I expected. I don't think he hit his stride until The End of the Innocence.

I think the "Building the Perfect Beast" album is his masterpiece, and the best solo work he ever did. Sounds like Danny Kortchmar, but, so what?

My wife loves ASWTDID. It's her theme song.

I like her style! Who knew Don Henley could be fun? This needs to be blasted at maximum volume!

Does she understand what the lyrics are about? It's about being apathetic about the serious things that are happening in the world. Again, Henley uses a certain political or social backdrop as a metaphor.

I think you can also take it as a temporary "night out on the town" mentality wherein you forget about all the strife in the world and just let your hair down for a minute. "Ignorance is bliss" as they say. The genius of the song is pitting the serious subject matter against an insanely catchy, danceable beat. I picture my wife ripping the phone (and with it work email, global news etc...) out of my hand for a minute and dragging me out on the dance floor.

Knowing about Don Henley, I would say that the only reason he used dance music was for a way to get people to listen to the lyrics. Problem is, the message is lost on most listeners. I think I remember him saying as much in a long ago interview.

No doubt. Hard to make a pop/dance song with a "message" that gets taken seriously. Cool for the listener though...I can appreciate either the lyrical or the instrumental facets of the song separately as fine works in their own right or enjoy the at odds pairing as a whole. A great song on several levels.

Catching up. So glad to see all of the Heaven 17 singles you have! They're one of my favorite overlooked bands from the 80's (at least, overlooked in America). One of the best 12"ers I used to own was the extended version of "Let Me Go".

Why do people nowadays feel the need to start a sentence with "So". It needs to stop.

So, would Joe have to change the name of this album to..."What"?

And I guess Peter Gabriel can now have a fifth self titled LP if we drop the "SO" right?
