What are some good songs dealing with the theme of being in love, but the person who is the object of your affection doesn't know you love them?

"My Cherie Amour" by Stevie Wonder is one that comes to mind for me.

That's an interesting one. Is the character in some sort of denial (and speaking to himself)? It's a "creepy" song - but the version by the "Fun Lovin' Criminals" is much different..

It's a bit like "Casual Conversations" (Supertramp) - the lyric can be taken in a few ways...

 

I've always thought of it being rather tongue in cheek - almost a satire.

yeah hard to say exactly..maybe writing a letter or thinking of what to say...or just imagining to himself....a rather odd song if you actually listen to the words.

Secret Love by Doris Day was the first one I thought of.

 

I might be off base but I always figured the lyrics to "Happy Together" were completely internalized.

 

I always thought that was sung pretty straightforwardly to the person who's in love with the singer, reminding her that he's not in love with her. The only reason her picture is on his wall is that there's a nasty stain lying there.

I never took the song any other way.

I was thinking the same thing. "Every Breath You Take" would be another one, albeit a somewhat creepy one. Also, "Creep" by Radiohead.
