Been listening to this one a lot lately... Gawd, I had almost forgotten what a powerful song it is! Hits me right in the gut. It describes exactly how I'm feeling right now....

 

I always thought this song was about a wife that loved someone else. Then after reading the Diary, he lets her go to the other man (devorced) but always loves her.

 

I sometimes wonder why these old threads get revived, but I guess that somebody must care, so here's one to add...

Likely the oldest hit recorded in Cleveland, Ohio to be found in stereo.
My CD copy was mastered by our host and sounds lovely.

 

My favorite has got to be "Want" by Jawbreaker. Here are the lyrics:

And you sort of have to hear the chorus to really appreciate it, it's more like "I-yi-yi-yi-yi-yi, I want you." Could have been total cheese, but it works!

Recorded c.1998, but it sounds like 1966. If you like '60s-style pop, you'll love this! Pick up a copy of either This is Cinerama or Va Va Voom, it's on both.

How about "Long, Long Time" (Linda Ronstadt)

The lyrics indicate that the Love Object knows but doesn't care, but it still sounds like secret longing to me regardless.
