    Heart - "Alone"

Been listening to this one a lot lately... Gawd, I had almost forgotten what a powerful song it is! Hits me right in the gut. It describes exactly how I'm feeling right now.... :(

I always thought this song was about a wife that loved someone else. Then after reading the Diary, he lets her go to the other man (devorced) but always loves her.

I sometimes wonder why these old threads get revived, but I guess that somebody must care, so here's one to add...

I have always taken Every Breath you Take by the Police as being sung by some mad obsessed stalker, whose object of affection has no idea they are the object of the this other person's affection. In my imagination, I fear for the objects safety and well being.

From 1958 "Born Too Late" by The Poni-tails.
Likely the oldest hit recorded in Cleveland, Ohio to be found in stereo.
My CD copy was mastered by our host and sounds lovely.

My favorite has got to be "Want" by Jawbreaker. Here are the lyrics:

"Been staring for a hundred hours.
    Run down a spiral drain.
    Keep mouth clamped tight,
    and it isn't right.
Three words keep running 'round my mind,
but my tongue is hard to find.
I need to let it go,
    because I know.

    Dark secrets burn their vessel.
Tearing out to grab a mouthful.
Chunk of heart destroyed by quiet.
Yell it out before it kills you now.
    Let it all out.

Used to let rumors do my work.
    They got around real well.
    Now they only hurt.
    It's a liar's quirk.
This time I gotta say it straight.
I mean to do some good.
    I'm calling out your name
    while the chance remains.

    Dark secrets burn their vessel.
Tearing out to grab a mouthful.
Chunk of heart destroyed by quiet.
Yell it out before it kills you now.
    Let it all out.

    I want you.
    (4x)

So now you know where I come from.
    My secret's come undone.
    My heart revealed my cause.
I'm lying naked at your feet.
Don't crush the heart that beats.
    Take me at my word.
    It may sound absurd, but

    I want you. (4x)"

And you sort of have to hear the chorus to really appreciate it, it's more like "I-yi-yi-yi-yi-yi, I want you." Could have been total cheese, but it works!

    Dance Girl Dance -- Cinerama

Recorded c.1998, but it sounds like 1966. If you like '60s-style pop, you'll love this! Pick up a copy of either This is Cinerama or Va Va Voom, it's on both.

    Excellent pick.

How about "Long, Long Time" (Linda Ronstadt)

The lyrics indicate that the Love Object knows but doesn't care, but it still sounds like secret longing to me regardless.

I gotta post the lyrics for this one which I mentioned earlier.....
    Such an emotional, heartbreaking song!

    "Alone" by Heart

I hear the ticking of the clock
I'm lying here, the room's pitch dark
I wonder where you are tonight
    No answer on the telephone

And the night goes by so very slow
I hope it that it won't end, though
    Alone

Till now, I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
But now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone?
How do I get you alone?

You don't know how long I have wanted
To touch your lips and hold you tight
You don't know how long I have waited
And I was gonna tell you tonight

But the secret is still my own
And my love for you is still unknown
    Alone

Till now, I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
But now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone?
How do I get you alone?

    :(

    Accidents will happen

The likes of you may never be attracted to the likes of me,
But accidents will happen and I'll be around,
And maybe there'll be no one else but me around.
Forevermore may never start, you may ignore my hopeful heart,
And chances are not the one to make you fall,
But accidents will happen after all.
A smile may show it, your eyes may glow
Before you know it, I'm sure I'll know.
So if you fall in just that way, oh wouldn't I be thrilled to hear you say
I had a lovely accident today.
Your eyes may glow, I'm sure I'll know.

    Ooh, ohh, I got one!

"I Want to Tell You" - The Beatles

    I want to tell you
I feel hung up but I don't know why,
    I don't mind
I could wait forever, I've got time...

One of my favoritest songs. Man, do I ever relate to it.
